Do-it-yourself metal mailbox drawing. Production of a mailbox with a signal system "mail has arrived

Anyone could make a mailbox with their own hands. It is only important to objectively evaluate your skills and abilities in creating such things and choose a model, the manufacture of which will be within the power of the master. Do-it-yourself mailboxes can be made according to simple circuits, it will work even for beginners. But more complex forms require enough experience and knowledge from the manufacturer.

It will be easiest to make a mailbox from wood or plywood, the main thing is not to forget to soak the parts with an antiseptic.

What is important to consider when starting to create a mailbox

For those who have not yet chosen what the future mailbox will look like, it is important to determine the fundamental parameters before creating it:

  1. What material will it be made from?
  2. What will be its dimensions.
  3. What design to choose for him.

After the choice is made, you can proceed to the drawings, the acquisition necessary materials and directly to the creation of the product.

Wooden mailbox - manufacturing

For beginners, the easiest way is to make a mailbox according to a very easy scheme from an affordable and easy-to-handle material - wood. The manufacturing process for this type of mailbox is described below.

A homemade wooden mailbox will require the following materials and tools:

  • a wooden beam made of inexpensive wood (pine, for example) with a length of at least 30 cm;
  • dense plywood sheet with good moisture resistance;
  • substances for the protective treatment of wood;
  • self-tapping screws for wooden products;
  • two hinges for the door;
  • door lock and hinge;
  • metal sheet 30 cm long;
  • screwdriver;
  • hacksaw or jigsaw.

From a wooden beam, you need to prepare four guide rails, the thickness of which will be 1 cm, width - 2 cm and length - 30 cm. Then you should make plywood blanks for the walls of the future mailbox. The dimensions of the front and back walls will be 30 cm long and 25 cm wide. Side panels, there should be only two pieces - they will have the following dimensions: length 30 cm, width 6 cm. The dimensions of the top and bottom panels should be 25 cm wide and 6 cm long.

Since all these parts are wooden, even before the mailbox is assembled, they should be treated with substances that will permanently protect the finished product from rain, snow and insects. This will allow for a very long term use a future mailbox for a private house.

After all the main parts are ready and processed, you can begin to assemble the product. All four guide rails must be connected to the back wall, bottom and side panels. To do this, it is best to use prepared screws and a screwdriver.

Although there is another option - you can put all the parts on glue, in which case it would be better if you use good wood glue.

The top panel of a wooden mailbox should contain a slot into which the postman can drop letters, newspapers and other correspondence. A skilled craftsman will easily make the desired gap one centimeter wide in the middle. For beginners, there is an easier recipe. The remaining plywood panel, 25 cm long and 6 cm wide, can be cut with a jigsaw (or hacksaw) and made into two panels 25 cm long and 2.5 cm wide. Thus, the master will be able to make a 1 cm wide slot by attaching these two thin panels to the finished frame on top. This simple trick will make it easier to make a homemade mailbox.

Since the slot for the press is located in the upper part of the structure, it is reasonable to provide for strengthening a visor above it, which would protect all newspapers and letters from possible precipitation. Such a protective panel can be made from a metal plate. Here it is important to fit its dimensions well to the size of the mailbox itself, and then attach the metal cornice to the top of the product on the hinges. At the same time, it is important to take into account that the cornice itself does not prevent the postman from throwing mail into the slot.

Lastly, the front wall is fixed, since it will serve as the mailbox door. With its help, the owner will be able to take all correspondence from him. To do this, use prepared loops and a lock. Loops should be small and not bulky. At the same time, it is necessary that they be very durable and ensure the smooth and reliable movement of the door itself. Hinges for a padlock are attached on the opposite side, one on the door and the other on the side panel.

You can improve the finished product by installing an alarm that will notify the owners of the receipt of mail. To do this, you need to make another lower plywood bar and attach it below, forming a double bottom. The second plywood is attached to the springs. Contact plates from the telephone switch should be placed between these springs. Connecting wires from the box must be laid into the house to the battery and the lamp, the latter will light up every time the correspondence gets inside. This simple mechanism will always notify hosts about the arrival of mail.

Models of homemade mailboxes

Mailboxes come in a variety of shapes and designs. These products can differ in form and cost, they are made from various materials, and the design can be limited only by the imagination and skill of the one who creates them.

Wooden mailbox. This is a very simple and affordable version of the mailbox. Depending on the skills of the master, such boxes can be very simple in execution, or they can be carved and show the pinnacle of craftsmanship if they are made by professionals who have been working with wood for a long time.

You can build a simple mailbox from a plastic bottle and two metal staples.

Mailbox from a plastic bottle. This is a small and compact option, large packages of correspondence will not fit here, but it will always look original. Moreover, it is very easy to make such mailboxes from a plastic bottle with your own hands. To do this, a plastic container is placed in a metal or plastic pipe of the appropriate size and fixed in a place accessible to the postman.

Metal mailbox. To make such a device, you need to be able to work with metal, use more complex tools - a drill, welding, grinder, etc. However, such a box will last a long time, so the time and effort spent on it is worth it.

Plexiglas or plastic mailbox. It is not always easy to make it, because plastic parts will have to be fastened with glue or sealant. Here it is important to choose a good substance for gluing, otherwise the master will have to fiddle with such a model for a long time.

Clock mailbox. For this option, you need an old cuckoo clock. The clock mechanism should be dismantled, and the front of the former clock should be fixed on a wooden box. In this case, the hole from which the cuckoo used to jump out must coincide with the hole in the wooden base box. This will be the slot into which the postman will be able to lower the correspondence. At the same time, do not forget about the door through which the owners can take the press and letters.

Timber mailbox. First of all, you need to choose a good and thick log. Wood should be cut out of it and a pre-prepared metal box should be inserted into the resulting hole. The mail door should be on the front of the box.

The door itself can be trimmed with wood bark so that it does not “fall out” of the overall design of the mailbox.

Mail box installation

After the wooden mailbox is ready, it still needs to be installed in a place that will be convenient and accessible for both the postman and the owners waiting for mail. There are different options for installing mailboxes, they can be attached to different surfaces:

  • to the fence - the product is attached to the clamps;
  • to the wall of the house - the product is attached to dowels or anchors (their size depends on the wall itself);
  • to another hard surface, for example, to a wooden or metal gate;
  • to a separate rack (US mount).

Here is such a simple recipe that will help you with the question of how to make a mailbox easily and quickly, using simple and affordable tools and materials.

Replaced mailboxes long ago came Email, but this does not prevent the owners of private mansions, country houses and cottages from decorating their plots with non-standard, original, universal and original boxes, many of which seem to be real works of art. Similar device, designed to collect correspondence, can be purchased at hardware stores or built independently. It is created on the principle of a birdhouse, the technology of which is known to almost every person. To do this, you will need several wooden boards, a hacksaw, a knife, nails and glue. When the box is ready, be sure to use any additional elements to decorate it.

Animal figurines

Christmas wreaths are usually hung on the door, and mailboxes are turned into snowmen, Santa Claus, deer, elves and other symbolic characters. All this can be done with your own hands, armed with spruce branches, colorful ribbons, Christmas decorations and other decorative elements.

flower bed

The mailbox in the form of a flower bed looks very original. To create it, you need to purchase a special device for several flowerpots placed on the sides. In addition, you need to build a small rectangular plastic box in which correspondence will be collected. You should get a design in which the letter box will be in the center, and 4 flower vases will surround it, located parallel to each other. Such a box can be nailed to the door or hung from the visor above the entrance to the house.

System unit

You can create a more capacious mailbox design using an empty system unit, the main thing is that it should not be very bulky. Build a door from any durable material and decorate the unit accordingly. Such a product can be installed on any support or screwed to the fence.

Briefcase

Having made a metal mailbox stylized as a retro briefcase, you will be able to stand out from the background of your neighbors, emphasizing your individuality and unique style. People who feel at home in this business like a fish in water, it will not be difficult to draw a sketch of a briefcase and recreate a spectacular model of a box for letters and mail from it.

Hollow

It's no secret that natural wood is one of the most popular materials not only in construction, but also in creativity. It allows you to carry out various experiments, giving mailboxes different shapes and changing the external design. A round log or a thick log will be an excellent basis for creating an unusual mailbox. You can remove the core and turn the wood into a neat hollow. Do not forget to make a wooden door, otherwise the birds or animals that come to your territory will take the postal structure for their home.

American Style Mailbox Recommendations

There are many different options for the execution of such products, but many people want to move away from the standard forms and boast of something extraordinary and stylish. Today, mailboxes made in the American style are very popular. We are talking about metal boxes made in the form of a half-pipe. They assume the presence of a special flag signaling the delivery of mail, and a house number. Distinctive feature such boxes is their installation on a special rack along the road. To make an American mailbox yourself, you will need a small wooden rack or a metal pipe. Tools that will be needed for work:

  • plywood;
  • drill;
  • saw;
  • hammer, nails, screws;
  • wood screws;
  • slats / bars;

First you need to build a box for the mail - it's quite simple. Wood is best suited for this purpose. You need to take 4 small sheets of plywood and nail them together to form a box. To obtain an arched shape, the edges of the upper part of the box must be carefully cut down, giving the shape of a rainbow. When the box is ready, it will need to be attached to a support made of wood or metal. This is done with a drill and screws. After connecting the 2 parts of the structure (box and support), varnish the wood and do not forget to decorate your mailbox. To fully feel the atmosphere, write the house number on the box and take care of the red flag.

Experts recommend equipping a visor above the hole for lowering letters, which will prevent moisture from entering inside. When deciding to build a wooden box, corners should be used to fasten all the parts, which will make the structure more durable and increase its service life. Don't forget a little padlock that will protect your correspondence from unkind eyes and hands.

Conclusion

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in creating a spectacular mailbox with your own hands. Even those who are not particularly strong in creativity can afford to arrange a place for receiving correspondence in an original way - the main thing is that there is a desire to do something truly extraordinary. Thanks to various variations of such structures, they can be made from the simplest materials. It is only important to take into account that appearance the mailbox must be in harmony with the overall ensemble of your site. It can be said without exaggeration that a beautiful handmade mailbox, decorated with various decorative elements, will become your pride for many years to come.

A mailbox is an essential part of any home. How to make a mailbox yourself, unique in design and having the function of notifying you of the arrival of mail, is described in this article.

If you have a house, then you have your own address, to which you receive postal items- press, letters and other notices. To receive correspondence, you can buy a mailbox in any appropriate store and hang it on the front door. Such a solution, in addition to high cost, and high-quality mailboxes are quite expensive, it is also bad that the ready-made options are faceless and, accordingly, are not able to decorate your home. We will tell you how you can make a unique mailbox with your own hands, which has two undeniable advantages over purchased ones:

  • located on the inside of the fence, that is, being on the territory of a personal plot, and having a decorative look, it will serve as a decoration for the garden;
  • the mailbox is equipped with an autonomous mechanical signaling of the receipt of mail, that is, the box device will have a simple, reliable and trouble-free mechanism that works at the time the mail arrives, thereby informing the owner that the mail has arrived.

Such a mailbox, in the end, will cost you less than a purchased one, and you can make it yourself in one day.

So let's get started.

Tools and materials

To make a mailbox house, we need:

  1. Circular saw or hand saw.
  2. Drill or screwdriver.
  3. Sheet metal or any other sheet material. A cut tin can is fine.
  4. Lumber trimmings.
  5. Wooden skewers. We will use them as dowels.

Manufacturing instructions

1. We start with the manufacture of the base platform. To do this, use a rectangular piece of plywood 20 mm thick. We cut out a rectangle according to the dimensions indicated in the photo, process it with sandpaper and cover it with soil.

2. We cover the edges with decorative facings.

4. After painting the platform to the bottom with the help of self-tapping screws, we fix the stand and the slope, which are made of a profile pipe.

5. We fix the platform at the installation site of the mailbox.

6. From the outside of the fence we make a damper. We cut a vertical hole in the profiled sheet of the fence. From a metal plate with a thickness of 1.5 mm we make linings for the slot and the damper itself. We fix the damper with a self-tapping screw in its upper part to the plates on the slot. The shutter moves to the left or right, thereby opening the entrance to the slot through which the mail enters.

7. Let's start manufacturing the details of the mailbox.

8. We assemble the frame. Details in the places of gluing are additionally fixed with wooden dowels.

9. We fix the left side wall to the frame and start making the signaling device. It consists of two metal plates interconnected by a metal axis and located relative to each other in perpendicular planes. We fix the plates to the axis with metal rivets. On the plate, which will be located outside the mailbox, we apply a thematic drawing (postman), cut it out along the contour of the drawing with metal scissors and paint it with acrylic paints. The second plate should cover the inlet from the inside of the box. Thus, the empty box is made ready by lifting the right plate. When mail is placed in the box, the plate falls down, lifting the left plate with the postman painted on it. It is his appearance that signals the presence of mail.

10. The axis of the signaling device is fixed with the help of corner metal loops to the platform with self-tapping screws.

11. We fix the front wall and insert the thematic drawing into the opening of the future window.

12. We make window frame parts. Before installing the frame, insert glass into the opening.

13. Glue the right side wall. In the center of the wall we make an imitation of a door and decorative cashing from fiberboard. We also make a back wall with a vertical slot from fiberboard, into which mail will enter the mailbox.

14. We decorate the outer corners of the house and the lower part with wooden corners.

15. Let's start making the roof. We glue the frame of the base of the roof.

16. Glue a piece of fiberboard to the bottom. Next, glue two pairs of rafters onto the frame. All connections must be additionally fixed with dowels.

17. We attach the roof frame to the house with the help of small eyelets, since the roof will act as a mailbox cover.

18. We make the gables of the roof from fiberboard and glue the ebb from the front side.

19. On the rafters we attach a rough roof from scraps of boards or lining.

20. On the rough roof, with the help of small nails, we fix the tiles cut out of tin.

21. After fixing the tiles, we make a ridge and wind slats.

22. Making a porch.

23. We install the structure in place. The unique mailbox is ready.

Evgeny Dubinin, rmnt.ru (based on material from Valley user)

Hello dear readers. Today I would like to tell you about how you can make a mailbox with your own hands and from improvised materials.

Making a mailbox with your own hands

Basically, this is my own experience. However, let's talk about everything in order.
After the manufacture and installation of a new metal gate, we found ourselves without a mailbox (it was dismantled along with the old wooden one).

For some time, the mail was inserted into the gap between the gate and the gate. In the end, the wife got tired of this and she set a clear task - to do new box for mail.

After some thought, I came up with the following solution.
I had a few drawers from an old closet in my shed. These boxes were made of planed boards, plywood and fiberboard.

It was decided to use them as donors for a new mailbox.

The only thing that did not suit me was the size of these boxes.

Therefore, I carefully disassembled them and then, having filed blanks of the sizes I needed, I assembled new foundation my mailbox.

The assembly of the rectangle-frame was carried out on nails, although it is better, of course, to use thin and rather long self-tapping screws for these purposes.

Well, okay, because the back wall made of plywood gives additional rigidity to my design. By the way, I used a drill and a jigsaw to cut out a slot for letters and newspapers.

First, I marked a hole, then I drilled a hole on the marking contour with an electric drill (I selected the diameter of the drill so that it was slightly larger than the width of the jigsaw blade), after which I sawed a hole along the marked contour with a jigsaw. It turned out neat enough. The edge of the gap was additionally processed with sandpaper.

Now a few words about how the door of my mailbox is made. It is also made of plywood, and so that the lid does not warp or turn inside out, I provided it with such a peculiar frame on the inside.

I got all the slats for the frame from the same boards from the boxes, spreading them with a circular saw and additionally processing them with a planer. So that at the junctions of the rails everything is in at its best, I used a miter box for sawing (a cool thing by the way).

I hung the door on the mailbox with the help of hinges and small self-tapping screws found in the barn.

Naturally, I twisted the screws with a screwdriver (although it is possible with a screwdriver, but it is rather dreary). The hinges are a little too big, but I did not consider it advisable to buy more suitable ones.

I made the door latch from an old door latch, bending it in the right way and fixing it on my new mailbox with self-tapping screws.

I fixed the box on the fence, arranging it in such a way that the hole for letters and newspapers fell on the gap between the boards (fortunately, I made a non-continuous fence in my time). I attached the entire structure to the fence pickets through the back wall of the box with self-tapping screws. End result in the photo:

Here is a mailbox I made in a couple of hours with my own hands.

By the way, yesterday the postman dropped the first letter into it!

Each of us repeatedly sighed with grief, standing at his overflowing mailbox, from which clumsily sticks out or even falls out at times not only a mass of advertising newspapers and booklets, but also useful, expected by us correspondence.

You can solve the problem of inconvenience due to printed spam in a radical way: every day to guard couriers, peddlers of leaflets and postmen, personally sorting and returning waste paper you do not need to them. Or you can get creative and make a roomy wooden mailbox with your own hands. Choose the second option, then this article is for you.

To make a mailbox you will need:

  • materials: waterproof 19 mm plywood, larch boards 32x150 mm, wood glue for outdoor use;
  • tools: adjustable square, hacksaw, drill driver, 4 mm drill bit, countersink drill, stainless steel screws, two edge loops and long screws.

How to make a mailbox frame?

It is better to make the back panel and the bottom of the structure from waterproof plywood, this guarantees a long period of operation of the box itself and reliable protection from atmospheric moisture to its contents.

Using a sharp hacksaw, cut out two pieces of plywood measuring 15x30 cm - this will be the bottom of the box, and 30x50 cm - this is the back panel.

Fold the parts so that the back wall rests with its short end on the bottom, and draw a line along it, marking the junction. Drill three holes, placing them along the center of the outlined part. Apply a layer of wood glue to the joint, connect the parts and fasten with three screws using a screwdriver.

Please note: first of all, you should screw in the middle screw, then check whether the parts are evenly adjacent to each other and continue fixing already at the edges of the structure.

This sequence will help to easily avoid skew in the connection.

We continue to collect the frame of the mailbox. Next in line are the racks that will hold the front and side panels.

How to make your mailbox

The width of the racks should be at least 3-4 cm, and the length in height should be 10 cm lower than the height of the back panel, that is, 40 cm. We will also cut them out of waterproof plywood.

We mount racks in the usual way: we make a hole for the screws, glue the junction and tightly fasten the parts.

The frame is ready.

What and how to sheathe a mailbox?

Facing the mailbox has not only a functional, but also an aesthetic component. The design must have a pleasant appearance, because this is the item that accompanies and meets you daily at the entrance to the house.

We offer larch boards as cladding.

Cut with a hacksaw the required number of facing elements and use a countersink drill to make several holes around the perimeter. First, put the first part on the glue, then tighten it with screws. In the same way, gradually sheathe both side panels.

Each part of the front panel will require a little adjustment to ensure that its edges line up correctly with the edges of the side panel parts.

Using a square, mark the angle that should be transferred to the front panel boards, and give them the desired shape with a hacksaw.

Pay special attention to the manufacture of the mailbox cover.

Firstly, it must match the thickness of the front and rear walls, and secondly, it is a movable part of the structure and must work flawlessly.

Use the adjustable square to select the correct angle for the end piece of the lid along the front panel. Cut off the narrow part and process it with sandpaper. Connect the resulting part to the beveled plank as usual, with glue and screws. We fasten the third plank with the help of a support bar.

It remains only to cut off the protruding back and the lid is ready. Connect the box and the lid by attaching the edge hinges to them with screws.

A voluminous and beautiful wooden mailbox that you made with your own hands will be the subject of your special pride. Attach it in a convenient place and the problem of printed spam is solved.

There are many options for making a box from improvised materials. They differ in shape and design, as well as the material used to build them, and the price. Many models can be easily created with your own hands, using fairly cheap materials. Some are made with the help of certain skills that require great effort and considerable expense.

What types exist?

When choosing a design, first of all, you should pay attention Special attention on the general style of the house, the estimated capacity, as well as the location of the box. It is very important that the owners initially decide whether it will be used only for its intended purpose or whether it will have to perform additional decorative functions.

The style of the product can be very diverse. The most commonly seen types are:

  • standard or traditional;
  • English;
  • American;
  • original.

Traditional mailboxes with a special slot for placing letters, newspapers and other correspondence are the most common in post-Soviet countries and can be made from any material.

Today, traditional designs are increasingly being decorated, thereby giving them a more unique and interesting look. Standard boxes most often installed on gates or fences. They are very easy to make and use in the future.

For example, an American mailbox: they are all similar in structure, but as far as decor is concerned, each of them has no equal.

Each type has a special flag that, when raised, indicates the presence of a letter in it, which must be sent as soon as possible. Postmen in America take out such letters and mail them themselves. In post-Soviet countries, you can also work according to this scheme, but for this you need to agree in advance on this service with the postman.

Such structures are mainly installed on some kind of separate support made of any material: wood, metal or others.

Traditional drawer options are more spacious than American ones. Based on this, before deciding to make an American-style box, it is necessary to know exactly the amount of correspondence received.

As for the English mailboxes, they are presented in the form of a kind of bollard made of brick or any other durable material. It is customary to install them on the ground just a few meters from the threshold of the house or the entrance to the territory of your site. Outwardly, they resemble a small house, they are very roomy, and their strength cannot but surprise.

If we talk about the original types, then they include all models that have a very interesting and attractive design solution. Even various household items can be used in such a way that it will be impossible to look away.

For the manufacture of a box of any type and type, you can use brick, plastic, wood, metal. If you make it yourself, then it is best to give preference to a wooden or plastic variation, the construction of which does not take much time. If you decide to make a box of metal, then you need to resort to using additional tools have welding skills.

The most durable and very reliable are considered to be boxes made on the basis of brick or metal, in other words - for the press, English style.

A beautiful mailbox, reliable and very durable, you can make it yourself. There are several main recommendations that are responsible for the quality of the product:

  1. If the product is made of wood, then each element of the future design is best fastened with special corners, which will give the mailbox additional strength, and in case of urgent need, it will facilitate repair work.
  2. In the event that the slot intended for receiving correspondence is located on top, a special protective visor should be made to prevent precipitation from entering the box.
  3. In order to retrieve letters, the door is best done at the bottom. It would be nice if the entire lower part of the structure reclines.
  4. If the mail release door is located on the front of the structure, all necessary dimensions must be calculated accurately, as well as adjusting the main parts to prevent gaps.
  5. So that no one can extract your correspondence except you, especially during your absence, you need to install a lock.
  6. To prevent all kinds of flyers and flyers from being thrown into your mailbox, install a separate wooden cabinet next to it, designed for this information.

Instructions for making a wooden or plywood box

In order to make a box of wood, you will need to stock up on the following materials:

  • wooden sheet (veneer or plywood) - 65 * 65 cm;
  • plywood 0.9 cm thick - 65 * 43.5 cm;
  • special pine timber - 100 * 0.75 * 0.5 cm;
  • specially prepared piano loop - 13 cm;
  • sandpaper for leveling irregularities;
  • mortise lock;
  • screws;
  • glue for woodworking;
  • colloidal silica;
  • epoxy adhesive, consisting of 2 components.

First of all, the existing pine timber will need to be cut into 3 equal pieces - 33 cm. On one of the bars, you will need to draw 1 main and 2 transverse lines, with a distance of 30 cm. A smooth curved line is drawn using a pattern. Using a hacksaw, the necessary bend is cut out, and the edge is thoroughly cleaned. Thus, the 2 remaining bars should be processed.

Then they need to be glued together well. Plywood measuring 0.9 cm will need to be cut into pieces.
