The HP LaserJet 4200 printer is heavy enough to require two people to lift. The body of the printer is made of durable matte white plastic.

Printing and Changing the Control Panel Menu
To view the options set in the various menus, print the Control Panel Menu Map. It may be useful to keep the menu map near the sprinter for reference.
Some menu options appear only when the appropriate tray or accessory is installed. For example, the menu only appears if a board is installed.
Follow these steps to print the menu map
Press Select (v^) to open the menu.

If you cannot access a menu or menu item, it may mean that the printer does not use it, or you have not enabled the corresponding function for more than high level. If the feature has been blocked, contact your network administrator. (Access denied menu LOCKED appears on the control panel screen.)

Printer drivers

You can obtain printer drivers for UNIX and Linux model scripts by downloading them from the Internet or by requesting them from authorized service centers, as well as through HP support services. (Refer to the information sheet in the printer box.)
OS/2 drivers are supplied by IBM as part of OS/2. Drivers are not provided in Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.
If the required printer driver is not included on the CD or is not listed in this guide, read the information in the installer or the Readme file to determine if the printer driver is supported. If the driver is not supported, contact the software manufacturer or distributor you are using to request a printer driver.
Software for computers running Windows
The CD contains printer drivers and other software for Windows computers.
Network administrators
If the printer is connected to a network using an HP Jetdirect card, you must configure the printer for that network before printing. For Microsoft and Novell NetWare networks, you can use the printer installer.
Select the Create Custom Installer option in the Customization Utility to create an installer that contains exactly the software that end users will use.
The installer can be configured to run silently and install preconfigured driver settings for all PCL drivers and for the PS driver in Windows 2000 and Windows XP. (Select Program automatic installation, and then select Yes, I want to configure the drivers.) The Copy Only Printer Drivers option in the setup utility also allows you to create driver disc sets that can be installed using the Microsoft Windows Add Printer Wizard.
Selecting the best printer driver for your application
Select the printer driver according to how the printer is used. Some printer features are available only with PCL 6 drivers.
Use the PCL 6 printer driver to take full advantage of the printer's capabilities. For general office printing, we recommend using the PCL 6 driver, which provides the best balance between performance and print quality.
Use the PCL 5e driver if some documents do not print correctly when using the PCL 6 driver, or if font DIMM support is not available.
Use the PS driver if you are printing primarily from programs that use PostScript, such as Adobe or Corel.
The printer automatically switches between PS and PCL.
Software for Macintosh computers
The HP Installer provides Macintosh PPDs and the HP LaserJet Utility. The Embedded Web Server can be used by Macintosh computers if the printer is connected to a network.
PPD files, in combination with the Apple LaserWriter 8 driver for OS version 8 to 9.xx and the PS Converter for OS X 10.1 or higher, allow access to printer features and also allow the computer to communicate with the printer. An installer for PPD files and other software is included on the CD. Use the appropriate PS driver that comes with the operating system.
PDE (Printer Dialog Extensions) files, in combination with the Apple LaserWriter 8 Driver for OS X, allow access to printer features and also allow the computer to communicate with the printer. An installer for PPDs, PDEs, and other software is included on the CD. Use the appropriate Apple LaserWriter driver that comes with your operating system.
HP LaserJet Utility
The HP LaserJet Utility provides control over features that are not available in the driver. GUI With graphic illustrations, it makes printer setup easy from a Macintosh. The HP LaserJet Utility allows you to do the following:
Setting the display of special messages on the printer control panel;
Assign a name to the printer, assign the printer to a network zone, download files and fonts, and change most printer settings;
Setting a password on the printer;
Lock functions on the printer control panel from your computer to prevent unauthorized access (see printer software Help);
Configuring and setting up the printer to print using IP addressing.
The HP LaserJet Utility is not currently supported for OS X, but the utility is supported for the Classic environment.
The HP LaserJet Utility is not available in Czech, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Turkish.
Networking software
The printer software provides a link to the HP Web Jetadmin software to manage the printer.
HP Web Jetadmin software
HP Web Jetadmin 6.5 is based on Web software software for remote installation, monitoring, troubleshooting of peripheral equipment connected to the network. The intuitive browser software interface simplifies cross-platform management of a wide range of devices, including HP and non-HP printers. Management is proactive, allowing network administrators to resolve printer-related issues in a way that does not impact users. To get plug-ins for HP Web Jetadmin, click plug-ins, and then click applications.
When installed on a host server, HP Web Jetadmin can be accessed through a Web browser using any client. To do this, navigate to the HP Web Jetadmin host in a Web browser.
If HP Web Jetadmin is installed on the host server, it can be accessed by any client on the network by browsing the HP Web Jetadmin host computer using a supported Web browser (for example, Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x or Netscape Navigator 4.x or higher).
The HP 4200 printer, filled with black toner, can produce up to 35 A4 pages per minute. The high-speed MFP has a good performance of 150,000 pages per month. The 4x20 graphic display with help functions greatly simplifies the work of employees of medium and large organizations.
