TV tower kuala lumpur. Petronas Towers

KL Tower Menara The Menara television tower in Kuala Lumpur is one of the most important attractions of the capital of Malaysia. The Menara Tower is immediately visible from many places in the city center. How to get to KL Tower Menara? We clarified the route with the duty officer at the monorel station, as well as with the policeman. There are two routes, from two monorail and metro stations (Dang Wangi LRT Station, Bukit Nanas Monorail Station, Masjid Jamek LRT Station) you can walk to the KL Tower Menara stop. Every 15 minutes a minibus departs to the main entrance to the Menara Kuala Lumpur television tower (it is better to take a minibus because it is uphill to the television tower). Free KL Tower Menara minibus schedule from 9 am to 9:30 pm.

There are a lot of visitors in the KL Tower Menara, but the queue at the ticket office is very well organized. Menara Tower staff will advise you in advance on choosing tickets and navigating the tower, what is where and what services and entertainment the Menara complex offers. KL Tower Menara tickets to choose from; there are Combo A, B and C and other standard offers (prices from RM23 to RM99, depending on the day and discount coupons) and two main offers. The first with a visit to the Open Desk tower (RM 155), the price also includes a visit to the Observation Desk, Mini Zoo, XD Theatre, F1 Simulator, Blue Coral Aquarium. The second offer is Observation Desk for RM115, which includes all services listed except the Open Desk of the Menara TV Tower Kuala Lumpur. We chose the first offer for 155 RM, but only saw the open and closed observation decks of the Menara tower; we didn’t have time to see the other options, because... were limited in time. We also wanted to have dinner at the restaurant in the towers, but we didn’t have time. Choose more time to visit the Menara Tower. On the open observation deck Open Desk there is a place for photo sessions, this is where you can “get stuck” in line, there are a lot of selfie lovers. It’s good that there are photographer employees who know good places for photos and help you take them for free good photos and don’t linger in the Open Desk glass cube. Of course for additional fee You will be offered a professional photo shoot overlooking the Petronas Towers and beautiful views city of Kuala Lumpur.

The KL Tower Menara has many game rooms, attractions, a cinema, an F1 simulator, cafes, shops, a zoo, and an aquarium. Overall, Menara Tower Kuala Lumpur will be very interesting for children.

Even after its construction, the Menara Tower would not have taken first place in height among other television towers in the world: it has 421 meters and is inferior, for example, to Ostankino. But at the same time, you will not be able to climb higher in all of Malaysia - if we talk about man-made structures. And this ascent on a high-speed elevator will take you just less than a minute. The tower has long been chosen by base jumpers (and completely legally), as well as newlyweds, for whom special wedding packages with banquet services and a show program have been developed here.

The Menara Observation Deck is located above the Twin Observation Towers, and the ticket to visit it is cheaper.

Naturally, the tower is visible from various points of the city and has become almost a mandatory element of postcards and a recognizable brand of Kuala Lumpur. At night, this impression is enhanced by fantasy lighting. Because of it, the tower received the poetic name “Garden of Light.”

The Menara Tower stands on a hill, the walk to the top of which is long and tiring. It's better to wait for the mini-bus below and try to squeeze into it.

Construction of the tower took five years and was completed in 1996. Like many other modern buildings in the capital, a design project was created for Menara taking into account the traditions of Islamic architecture. The same thing was done, for example, during the construction of the Petronas Twin Towers. Muslim canons are reflected not only in the external design, but also in the decoration of the interior of the tower, made by partners from Iran. Thus, the main hall at the entrance received muqarnas - an arched vault with arched edges, traditional for Arab buildings, similar to a honeycomb or pomegranate cells. On the ceiling there is a rich chandelier of stars with different numbers of rays, and on the central doors there is a blue and white mosaic with classic Muslim patterns.

Surrounding the tower is Bukit Nanas, Malaysia's most famous national park. Climbing onto the open observation deck at the top of Menara (to be precise - not at the very top, but at 276 meters), you can appreciate the view not only of the park, but of the entire Kuala Lumpur. By the way, this observation deck is located above the twin observation towers, and a ticket to visit it is cheaper. An even more pleasant way to admire the city from above is to have lunch or dinner at the panoramic revolving Malay restaurant at an altitude of 282 meters, but in order to get here you must first purchase a ticket from the ticket office below. By the way, tickets for viewing the TV tower are different, and for a small surcharge they give you the right to choose additional entertainment as a bonus: a visit to a mini-zoo, an aquarium, an F1 race simulator, an XD cinema, and the ethnographic museum complex “Cultural Village”. Upon entering the building, tourists receive a player with an audio story about the tower in different languages and even in Russian.

Interestingly, during the construction of the tower, a century-old tree growing nearby was under threat. They decided not to touch the tree and even surrounded it with a wall to protect it for the entire construction period. It cost a pretty penny.

The tower still functions as a television tower, but the transition to a digital broadcast standard requires such enormous costs that the country’s government has not yet decided to undertake it.

One of the high-rise attractions; the seventh tallest television tower in the world. The observation deck of the tower has long been a favorite of Malaysian tourists. Four modern elevators or two thousand steps lead to it. Menara deservedly shares its popularity with the famous Petronas Twin Towers.

Its height reaches 421 meters, and the peak of the tower serves as a city landmark. Construction of the structure lasted about five years, starting in 1991. The architectural style perfectly combines elements of Islamic architecture with modern high-tech. Geographically, the telecommunications tower is located in the area of the oldest Malaysian forest reserve on the top of a high hill.

The crystal dome of the tower with a cellular vault looks like a huge diamond. The observation deck is located at an altitude of 276 meters, which is much higher than the Petronas Towers site. In the open spaces of Menara, wedding banquets with an included show program are often held. BASE jumpers also like to come here, and on completely legal grounds.

Because of its unique lighting, the tower was called the “Garden of Light.” The reserve, located at the foot of Menara, is also quite popular among tourists. There is a living area with unusual animals, for example, albino reptiles, two-headed turtles, etc. Visiting the attraction is possible daily from 9 am. From Chinatown you can reach it on foot in 15 minutes.

Menara Tower in Kuala Lumpur (Menara KL) is not only one of the tallest TV towers in the world, but also observation decks and a restaurant with magnificent views of the city. Menara KL is also a symbol of Kuala Lumpur.

Menara Tower is one of the symbols of Kuala Lumpur

We didn’t get to Menara the first time... Every time we came to Kuala Lumpur, we stayed with my friend and our goal was not sightseeing in the city, but pleasant communication over a glass (and more than one!) of wine :) Despite the extensive home program We still went into the city several times :)

The first time we came to the Menara Tower was on a gray September day and before we even had time to buy tickets, a heavy downpour began. And in the rain there is no point in going up to the observation deck: the open observation deck of Menara Tower does not work in bad weather, and from the closed one due to the rain you can’t see anything. After waiting for about an hour for the rain to stop, drinking coffee, eating durian ice cream, visiting all the souvenir shops on the ground floor, we still couldn’t wait for the rain to stop and decided to postpone our visit to the Menara TV tower until next time.

Durian shop on the ground floor. Here you can buy dried durians, durian sweets, ice cream and other goodies :)

Next time we were luckier :) Before the flight to Kuala Lumpur we again stopped at my friend’s place, this time we finally managed to visit the Menara Tower and go up to the observation decks :)

How to get to Menara

Menara Tower is located in the center of Kuala Lumpur near Chinatown and Bukit Bintang (the exact location of Menara is on the map at the end of the article). From these areas the tower can be reached on foot. From Petronas Twin Towers to Menara it takes 15-20 minutes to walk.

The nearest monorail station is Bukit Nanas, from there to the entrance to the park near the tower is 750 m. From the entrance to the park to the tower itself to the top of the hill you can take a free minibus that runs every 15 minutes.

There is a large parking lot near the entrance to the tower. Opposite the exit from the TV tower building there is a metered taxi booth: it’s convenient to order a car, pay immediately and go in the right direction. By the way, taxis in Kuala Lumpur are inexpensive, especially compared to taxi prices in and around :)

Menara Tower Kuala Lumpur. Our photo review

Having arrived at the Menara Tower the second time in sunny, clear weather, we decided to visit two observation decks at once: open and closed, Sky Deck and Observation Deck. When purchasing tickets to the Sky Desk, you are asked to sign a piece of paper stating that you do not have any contraindications for being at such a height and that you assume all risks.

In the TV tower lobby before purchasing tickets

A short queue to enter the elevator, a minute of ascent on the high-speed elevator and here we are at an altitude of 276 m in front of the entrance to the Sky Deck.

We took the high-speed elevator to the entrance to the Sky Deck

The Menara TV tower site, unlike in Bangkok, is completely open, i.e. no mesh around, so the photos turn out great! The view of another symbol of the capital of Malaysia - the Petronas Towers - is especially beautiful.

Views of the city from the open area:

There are two large cubes - Sky Box. They are completely glass, including the floor! Before entering the sky box, you must leave all your belongings nearby and take off your shoes. The experience of walking on a glass floor at such a height is simply unforgettable! Especially for those who, like me, are very afraid of heights. We have already walked on the glass floor at the famous one, took pictures on the glass floor at the top of the Ostankino TV tower, but this is not the same compared to the glass floor at Menard. To be honest, I could hardly overcome myself to walk on the glass and take a photo.

At Sky Box, you can be photographed by a professional photographer, and then these photos can be purchased at the exit (it seems to cost 150 MYR for two printed photos).

They say that there are usually long queues at Sky Box and they only give you two minutes to take photos! But we were lucky: during our visit to the Menara Tower observation deck there were very few people and we didn’t stand in any queues. The most popular and crowded time on the tower, as in any place, is around six in the evening, before sunset.

I am very, very scared to sit on a glass floor at such a height! Overcoming my fear, I reached the edge of the glass cube :)
And Lesha is not afraid :)
Rare photo together :)

After walking around a lot and taking a bunch of photos against the backdrop of city landscapes, we went down to the Observation Deck and took a walk there as well. By the way, the photos of Kuala Lumpur through the glass in the Observation Deck turned out no worse, and maybe even better, than from the open area. And I must say that, surprisingly, the windows were very clean, unlike the windows in Bangkok :)

This was the end of our visit to the Menara TV tower, satisfied we went down, waited for the shuttle bus, went down the hill on it and walked on foot to the twin towers - to the Petronas Twin Towers, in order to have a good shopping in the shopping center below them. By the way, I recommend Kuala Lumpur for shopping! 🙂
