Big 3d hologram with your own hands. How is the hologram illusion made? Prism for hologram

Holographic three-dimensional pyramids are sold in online stores and cost a lot of money. We suggest that you do not rush to buy such a pyramid, since you can make it yourself. That is what this review is about.

So, we need:
- glue gun;
- stationery knife;
- transparent organic glass;
- pliers;
- stencil;
- mobile phone with a special holographic video.

In the absence of organic glass, you can use the transparent plastic of the disc box. Links to videos will be given at the end of the review. Note that the width of the upper part of the stencil is 10 mm, the lower part is 60 mm, and the height is 35 mm. It is also important that the pyramid is at a 45 degree angle.

The first step is to glue the stencil on organic glass. The stencil is temporarily glued on double-sided tape.

Next, using a clerical knife, we make deep cuts and then break off the organic glass with pliers. You can pre-clamp the workpiece in a vise.

As a result, we should get a workpiece in the form of a triangle. If the chips remain uneven, they can be processed with sandpaper.

We do the same operation three more times, since in general we should get four identical blanks.

The blanks for the three-dimensional illusion are ready, which means you can remove the substrates and glue them together with a glue gun.

The 3D hologram is ready. To see the illusion, you need to set it upside down exactly in the center on the smartphone screen. It is also necessary to close the pyramid with a piece of cardboard from above. According to the author, it is desirable that the cardboard be dark. It remains just to run a holographic video and observe the effect from any angle.

Now you will learn how to make a 3D holographic pyramid with your own hands at home. Of course, you can buy it in the online store, but there its price is quite high. Therefore, we will make a holographic pyramid from improvised materials and naturally at home.

Required

  1. Glue gun or just a tube of glue;
  2. stationery knife;
  3. A strip of transparent plexiglass (an analogue may be plastic from a CD box);
  4. Pliers;
  5. Stencil on which we will cut out the shapes for the pyramid
  6. Smartphone on which the video for the holographic pyramid is uploaded. You can download it at the end of this page;
  7. Double-sided tape;
  8. Sandpaper.
maybe not everyone. Surprise your family and friends, make your clothes unique.

Step by step process of creating a pyramid

The stencil of the holographic 3D pyramid has the dimensions shown in the picture

The required angle must be 45 degrees.

Video for holographic pyramid

In order to get a hologram, you need to upload a special video. Content for a 3d pyramid is quite difficult to find. Here we will lay out some popular video clips that you can download.

Where can I buy

You can buy such a pyramid on aliexpress. It is made very carefully and is usually adapted to any device, but the price starts from 1500 rubles. Here are a couple of links where you can buy one.

In this video tutorial, Roman will show you how to make a 3D hologram pyramid. Such a small pyramid costs about 2000 rubles on the Internet. However, it turns out that you can save money and make a holographic projector that will work on the basis of a phone with your own hands. If you don’t want to do it yourself or don’t like handicraft, you can buy it in the online store.

To make a projector, we need:

glue gun;

stationery knife;

transparent plastic from the CD case;

pliers;

mobile phone;

The photo shows a drawing of a holographic pyramid.

Please note that the angle of inclination of the side faces of the pyramid must be exactly 45 degrees.

First, temporarily glue the stencil on double-sided tape. Next, using a clerical knife, we will make deep cuts and then break off with pliers, holding the workpiece in a vice. Align the chips of the resulting workpiece using sandpaper.

We repeat this operation three more times to obtain a total of four identical blanks.

When the blanks for the 3D illusion are ready, we will free them from the substrate and glue them together to get a pyramid, or more precisely, a truncated pyramid.

That's all. Holographic projector is ready!

You need to install the pyramid upside down exactly in the center of the phone display. We put a cardboard square on top, it should be dark in color.

Now we start the video and watch the hologram in action from any side.

The theory and practice of creating holographic images is first mentioned in the annals of the 16th century. The hologram illusion has been the subject of contemplation by scientists, artists and magicians for a long time. Engineers have perfected devices for reproducing transparent ghosts that appear where there is actually nothing. They developed glass and polymers to get the clearest possible projection. Engines were used to move the reflection planes, the light intensity was selected, and a multilevel process was created. Now everyone can make a 3D hologram on a tablet, smartphone and computer screen. Consider how to make a hologram using a tablet as an example.

How to make a hologram on a tablet or smartphone

To obtain a three-dimensional picture, a prism is installed on the screen of the device, or rather, a tetrahedral pyramid without a vertex. With the help of a specially prepared moving image reproduced on the screen, and this prism, you can create a three-dimensional picture. The image, reflected from the planes of the pyramid, appears as a 3D projection.

Prism for hologram

To make a prism, you need to take 4 boxes from computer disks with transparent covers. This plastic is suitable for creating a structure, which is done as follows:

  1. We break off the transparent cover from the box, free it from the side parts, leaving only a smooth surface.
  2. Now you need to cut out geometric shapes from the blanks using a stencil.
  3. We make a cardboard isosceles trapezoid with bases of 2 and 12 cm and a height of 8 cm.
  4. We apply this stencil to the plastic and circle it with a marker (preferably black).
  5. Using a metal ruler and a clerical knife, we make precise cuts along the marked lines. The force must be significant, or it is necessary to hold the tool several times.
  6. It is easy to break the plastic along this cut. Smooth out the edges with pliers.
  7. It turned out 4 trapeziums. They are the same in shape and size. The trapeziums need to be glued together with adhesive tape, for which we lay them out on the same plane, attaching the ribs to each other.
  8. After turning the resulting flat figure, we form a three-dimensional prism from it. Now we fix its ribs on the outside with tape.

If the hologram is created on a smartphone, the entire structure is made from a single CD or DVD box (from smaller trapeziums). To do this, reduce the size of the stencil. The dimensions of the prism for the hologram can be any, they are determined depending on the screen size of the device on which the 3D image will be displayed.

As a material, instead of covers from disc boxes, you can use plexiglass or a thick transparent film. You can use any plastic, even very thin and flexible, and ordinary glass.

Size Rules

In the networks today you can find a special video for a 3D hologram. Animated pictures, usually depicted on a black background, are the basis for a 3D projection that will appear in a transparent pyramid. You need to download them and enable them on the device screen. To check the size match, do the following.

  1. Position your smartphone (in this case, a tablet) upside down.
  2. Place the prism with its smaller base on the screen.
  3. Look at the image above. A small square (a slice of the top of the pyramid) should be about 2 times less than the distance between the moving pictures.
  4. The image itself as a whole should not go beyond the larger square.
  5. We check the height of the prism by the angle of inclination of the rib - approximately 45 °. Then the image will not be too high, going beyond the transparent structure, or low.

If all parameters are correct, the monitor prism can be considered ready and usable for 3D reproduction.

The picture created in the center of the prism will attract the attention of both the child and the adult.

How to make a hologram of yourself

If you want to make a hologram (3D image) of yourself, you need to hang a black cloth as a background and take a picture with several different shots. For starters, 2-3 photos are enough as a basis for giving movement (animation). You can record a video with your image on dark background. From it, it is subsequently possible to make a storyboard (breaking into separate frames) and create blanks for a hologram in an animation format.

To create animation, you need to know how to make moving pictures. If you do not know this, the idea to make a three-dimensional moving image yourself may not lead to the desired result. Each frame in the hologram is created in advance, and during playback, the pictures alternate at a given speed.

You can use almost any photo editor and animation program. The special picture for 3D includes a photo of a person repeated 4 times and arranged in a cross pattern. These 4 identical images on a black background must be placed within the square. On the tablet screen, the image will be two-dimensional. Next, you need to look at it from the side through a prism installed on the screen with a base (square). This will be surprising, since the 3D image will appear in the prism as if real, and not two-dimensional.

Where to get ready-made images to create a hologram

Pictures for reproduction of holograms should not be ordinary, but specially prepared. As described above, the image must be symmetrical within a square and consist of 4 identical elements arranged in a cross pattern. You can independently perform such a blank and give it movement, show artistic abilities, expressing your thoughts.

Before trying to do this, you need to find ready-made animations and videos for viewing holograms. Then make a prism and acquire the first skill in creating 3D images. Remembering the principle of action, it will be easier to realize your own ideas.

How to make a big hologram for a laptop?

The features of the 3D images obtained by the above method are realized as a large hologram. The template is a trapezoid with a base of 240 mm, an upper horizontal of 40 mm and a height of 140 mm. Relative to the side faces, a chamfer is made at 45 °. Glaziers have glasses of this size. You need to cut them exactly, on which the quality of the 3D picture depends. So it's easier to do it with plastic.

The ribs are carefully glued with silicone. Cut out strips of 1 cm in size from double-sided tape and glue the upper cut of the glass. Next, turn on the picture for 3D images in full screen. We put a pyramid on it with a smaller square. The tape will help prevent scratches. Align the edges with the white diagonals, run the video in a dark room.

A bit of history

The hologram illusion has been around for a long time. A similar technique has been used in theaters, parks, museums and concerts since the 19th century. The effect was named Pepper's Ghost, after the scientist D. G. Pepper, who spread the phenomenon through demonstration. That was in 1862, and today the art of the hologram has reached perfection. The world began to get acquainted with the phenomenon in the 16th century, when the Neapolitan scientist Giambattista della Porta developed a chamber for illusion. He also wrote the work "Natural Magic", which is the first mention of the reproduction of illusions. The scientist considered the question of how objects can be seen in the chamber that are not actually there.

The Polytechnic Institute in London is a scientific institution where D. G. Pepper worked in 1862. At the same time, the inventor G. Dirks was practicing the technique of the appearance of a ghost on stage in a play. He unsuccessfully tried to sell his idea to theaters. This required a complete rebuild of the scene, and the effect was deemed too costly. Then Dirks set up a stand at the Polytechnic Institute, where Pepper observed him. The scientist had the intention to modify the method, after which the phenomenon began to be used in cinemas. So the phenomenon gained significant success, and the world learned about it in detail. The improvement of the phenomenon by D. Pepper led to the fact that it received his name, and Dirks transferred to him all financial rights in a joint patent. People, being present at various shows, allowed themselves to be deceived, since it was believed that the phenomenon was created by geniuses.

Modern application

Modern examples today are, for example, transparent and translucent landmarks in the Walt Disney parks. The world knows them as the largest implementations of this idea. Several effects are assembled on a long stage. A giant 9.1m hologram is viewed in an empty ballroom. Animated ghosts move in hidden black rooms. The most modern version is used in the Terror Tower of the Twilight Zone.

The attraction in the city of Nashville uses a classic technique, allowing guests to see the spirits interacting with the environment. You can see them up close. California also has a Forest Mountain Halloween attraction featuring story characters. Projecting the image on the floor and reflecting it in the glass allows the live actor to interact with the ghost, which is used in performances. The world can see the phenomenon in the Netherlands, Australia, America, museums, parks, science fairs and attractions. Illusion finds application in different areas:

  1. Television and cinema use the method to broadcast broadcasts and create effects.
  2. Sometimes the phenomenon is used for commercial purposes to attract visitors.
  3. It is often used in music concerts. But in this case, the images are often projected rather than holographic. Entire installations run on special software.
  4. Political performances allow you to reproduce figures in several places at once. This effect was used in India during the speech of Minister Narendra Modi.
  5. Scientific philosophy uses a holographic model of the universe, where each part of a 3D image contains information about the whole picture. It helps to study the world in detail.

The story about creating 3D images should end with the phrase of the character Bill Cipher from the animated series Gravity Falls: “Remember that reality is an illusion, the universe is a hologram, buy gold!”. This hero, drawn in the form all-seeing eye, according to the idea of the cartoon, appeared from the second dimension of "flat minds". He could settle in the mind, visit dreams and had black humor. Hating fellow tribesmen, he destroyed the second dimension and helped the third to manifest itself.
