Do-it-yourself plywood tablet. How to make a DIY drawing tablet

A tablet is needed for the convenience of doing work. The drawing will be safe and sound until you cut it off the tablet. It is also convenient to view the work on the tablet and transfer it. In a word, you need a tablet! And especially in painting. Because it "leads" paper from contact with water-soluble paints, but this will not happen on a tablet.

How to make a drawing board out of plywood?

Of course, you can buy a tablet in art stores, but not everywhere they are in the size you need. It’s easier to make it yourself or order it, thereby adjusting it to the size you need. If you are a student, then you should usually be given a tablet to do some work. Then you create these works and thereby return the tablet. Tablets come in sizes 30:40, 40:50, 40:60, 50:70, 80:80 centimeters and so on.

We stretch paper on the tablet

We smear the edges and corners of the tablet with PVA glue. The front side of the plywood does not need to be smeared. The prepared sheet of paper (if you have a 30:40 tablet, then the sheet should be about 35:45 in size) we soak with water on both sides and let the water drain a little. We lay a sheet of paper on the tablet, where the edges smeared with glue will dry out a little. The edges of the paper will extend beyond the edges of the tablet. With clean hands, with smooth movements from the center to the edges, we expel the air, smoothing the paper to the tablet. Approaching the edges, gradually bend the paper over the sides of the tablet. Hand movements should be uniform in all directions from the center to the edges. When the paper is tacky, adjust the corners by grasping the corner with both hands and gently pull the paper over it.

Tablet - important notes

Do not press hard with your palms on the paper, do not damage the top layer. Do not use buttons or a stapler instead of PVA glue - in this case, the paper will not stretch evenly. When you have finished stretching the tablet, lay it horizontally to dry. Do not use heating appliances. In a natural way, in a horizontal position, the tablet will dry evenly, otherwise the paper will peel off from at least one corner of the tablet. If it doesn't work the first time, then definitely the third time. Of course, you don't have to make a new tablet for every job. When the work is finished, you can cut it off with a clerical knife and put it in a folder. Everything, the tablet is ready for the next task.

Where to start your choice, what are the main attributes you should pay attention to when choosing an amateur and professional graphics tablet? Let's try to understand some important subtleties of this device.

But first, let's define what it is.

What is a graphics tablet

So, if speaking in simple terms, That:

A graphics tablet is an electronic analogue of a drawing set that allows you to process photographs, create various drawings, animation, airbrushing, more complex 3D images, etc. It includes both the tablet itself (analogue landscape sheet), and a stylus (similar to a pencil or pen).

The case of the device itself is made of lightweight plastic or anodized aluminum. Plastic is an ergonomic material, it will serve you for a long time. However, anodized aluminum has a number of advantages: it is endowed with high strength, does not corrode, and has an aesthetic appearance and unpretentious in care.

All graphics tablets are equipped with USB port. Accordingly, a USB cable is included with the device.

Stylus

flat Touchpad The tablet is pressure sensitive. Management is carried out using a stylus (digital pen), which will allow you to draw even the smallest details with high accuracy. Modern digital pens are mainly produced in a wireless version. They are easy to use, have a higher sensitivity.

The digital pen is equipped with advanced functionality:

  • pressure sensitivity to vary line thickness or color density;
  • electronic eraser;
  • programmable buttons with different modes.

We figured out the outer shell and tools, now let's look at some of the characteristics of the device.

Work surface size

To get the most out of it, your tablet's active area should be the size of your monitor.

Examples of popular models

A6 format

  • WACOM Intuos Draw Creative Pen Tablet S
  • Wacom Intuos Pro S
  • Wacom One S (Small) A6

These models share a common format, ideal for starting your creative process. A device of this size will not take up much space, you can easily install the tablet in a workspace that is convenient for you.

  • Wacom Cintiq 13HD DTK-1300 A4

A4 tablets are suitable for more professional level consumers. They require not a small working space, but also have a large number of functions.

Resolution and response speed

One of the most important parameters is the resolution of the working area, which determines the sensitivity of the interaction of the stylus with the tablet panel. For graphics tablets, resolution is indicated in lines per inch (lpi), respectively, the higher this figure, the more detail and sharpness of the image you will get.

The next metric to look at is how fast the touch device notifies the computer of where the stylus is on the tablet's surface while it's working. Responsiveness is measured in reports per second (RPS) or points per second (PPS). Accordingly, the higher the maximum response speed, the more even and smooth lines will be displayed on the monitor.

Approximate ratio top speed response and permission

conclusions

Modern tablet models differ in active working area options:

  • the touch surface of a standard tablet senses the pressure of the stylus and displays the result on a PC monitor;
  • the working area of smart tablets allows you to convert to digital file an image or a note made on the most ordinary sheet of paper;
  • a-Si Active Matrix TFT LCD (IPS) display of professional devices is equipped with a backlight and a wide color palette - it displays the picture directly on its screen.

Today, the capabilities of tablets are so high, and the choice is so great that you can get lost in this abundance. But, nevertheless, knowing the main parameters, you can make for yourself a certain individual list and decide on the choice of your tablet.

I made a site about homemade products myself. On our website you will find homemade products, clear instructions will help you to assemble and use the homemade product you have chosen without any problems at home or at work.

DIY tablet stand

If you already have a tablet or just purchased it, you will need a stand soon. No, you can do without it, but you will have to watch the downloaded movie or cartoon while holding the tablet in your hand. Believe me, this is very inconvenient, especially since there are many objects nearby that can easily be used to make a stand.

Cardboard stand, the simplest option

The easiest option is a cardboard stand. It is enough to cut a triangle out of the box using the bottom, cut small grooves and that's it, you can install the tablet. You do not have to hold it in your hands if you have planned a demonstration of some slides.

We use the manufacturer's packaging

An equally common way to make a stand is a holder from the box in which the tablet was. m.ua can be purchased in several stages, and the stand will come in handy. Most likely, gadget manufacturers have taken care of the comfort of their customers.

How to make a tablet with your own hands (only instructions with video)?

Therefore, whoever guessed, he understood how to make a stand out of a simple cardboard box. A groove is cut in the bottom crosswise, then a tablet is inserted.

Improvised materials for the manufacture of stands

If you work in an office and you urgently need to set up a phone for a presentation, then ordinary pencils and a few stationery rubber bands will do for the stand. Create a trapezoid out of this, fix the tablet on it and make a presentation. Customers will be satisfied, at the same time they will praise for the original idea.

Some, when visiting a cafe, manage to make a similar slide of chopsticks for Chinese cuisine. It turns out quite original and even a little creative. At home, in addition to cardboard, you can use aluminum or copper wire for the stand. There is also an option for small clothes hangers that are twisted into a stand.

We do not spend money, but show ingenuity in creativity

Now you understand that for a tablet stand, it is not necessary to spend money in the store. You can do everything with your own hands, moreover, enjoy your own creativity. It is very interesting if there are a lot of things in the house that you would like to throw away. But they can always be reused, giving them a second life.

    4. Thin double-sided tape;

    5. Video instruction or step by step guide with photos of disassembling your tablet.

    Let's describe those types of tablet repairs that are quite possible to do at home:

    1. Flashing the tablet. It is needed if the programs themselves close or constantly give errors, the tablet reboots or freezes. Many tablets have a reset button or a combination of buttons that you can press to reset all settings and return to factory settings. The back cover is removed from the tablet, you find out what dimensions the old battery has, you can pick up a larger capacity. Remove the battery and install a new one on double-sided tape. Solder the wires: red to red, black to black. That's all, the battery replacement is completed, the main thing to remember is that it is strictly forbidden to close plus and minus.

      Touchscreen replacement. The glass is broken or the sensor has stopped responding to touch. In order to replace the sensor on the tablet, you need to disassemble the tablet and look at the markings on the touchscreen cable. By marking, you are looking for a new touchscreen (if there is no marking, then by the name of the tablet). One of the educational and exciting games for the child is drawing. Paints, pencils, felt-tip pens, it was already there. I decided to assemble a tablet for drawing with sand for my child.

    The role of the tablet is performed by the cover of the scanner. It has long lay disassembled and waiting in the wings. The lid can be put aside, it will not be useful.

    So that the light does not shine too brightly, I glued two layers of baking paper on the inside. Attached with double sided tape.

    From the outside it looks pretty good.

    I glued three pieces of LED strip on the inner surface.

    The power switch is embedded on the side ledge of the case.

    Supply led strip there will be three 18650 batteries connected in series. I will charge them:

    I screwed the legs to the structure. The role of the legs is performed by racks from some kind of equipment.

    Everything closes easily, snaps tightly.
    The child really liked it. I mainly use sand, but it is best to use semolina, it is more free-flowing and homogeneous.

    Before we start drawing with a pencil, you should seriously prepare for work and today you will learn how to properly stretch paper on a tablet! Of course, drawing on a good wooden tablet is much more convenient, especially in a larger size than landscape sketches.

    What are the advantages of wooden tablets? Both in watercolor painting and in drawing, it is more convenient to draw on paper stretched over a tablet like a drum. And especially for the lesson, I made such a tablet, consisting of fiberboard plywood and four wooden laths, additionally fastened with corners.

    How to stretch paper on a tablet?

    The slats are attached to the DPV with ordinary small furniture studs, and for greater strength, 4 corners from the same plywood are added on the reverse side. Trimming of the rails is done (with a regular hacksaw) at a right angle, but if possible, it is better to cut grooves for fastening in the rails, as on stretchers for painting. After bonding, sand the corners and the entire surface of the tablet to a smooth state and grind off the protruding sharp tips of the studs if they come out.

    It turns out quite tolerably. The dimensions of my tablet turned out to be 64x43 cm (this was the original piece of plywood). Ordinary educational wooden tablets for academic drawing have a size slightly smaller than A1 (“Whatman”) format, as well as 40x60 cm. Now you can safely stretch the paper on the tablet. To do this, cut the paper (if necessary) to fit the size of the tablet, leaving a centimeter allowance of 2. You can do more if you want to mount the paper on reverse side.

    Also prepare a furniture stapler for fastening, or ordinary pushpins. While studying at the school, we glued paper to the tablet with PVA glue. True, at the same time I had to wait until the glue dries and hold the paper.

    Also prepare water and a sponge with which we will wet one of the sides of the paper.

    After wetting the top side of the paper, without turning it over, place it on top of the tablet and bending the edges, begin to fasten the paper to the tree.

    I stretch the paper in the same way as I do the canvas for painting - from the center to the edges.

    If the paper goes beyond the edges of the tablet, you can attach it to the back side, it's okay, it's even more convenient to fasten it.

    As for the corners, some people cut the paper to make it easier to fasten the corners. You don’t need to cut anything, just bend the first corner in the middle with a boat, as in the photo below.

    And then take the corner to the side with a scarf and fasten it with a stapler or button.

    It should turn out such a neat corner.

    After all that has been done, turn the tablet over with paper up. Ignore if the paper will warp in waves. After drying, it will stretch on the tablet like a drum. Main, dry the tablet in a horizontal position- so the paper dries evenly and faster. If left to dry vertically, the paper may simply burst or tear. There were such cases in the school that even paper distorted the tablet itself from improper drying.

    So the basis for drawing with a pencil is ready for work, now drawing on this is a pleasure. After work, just cut the paper along the edge and that's it! I hope I explained everything clearly! If you have any questions, ask in the comments!

    What do you think of when you hear the word tablet? For most, this concept is associated with technology, and only a small percentage of people understand that this word is multifaceted. Artists and people who are versed in painting immediately remember the special device that they use when drawing.

    Drawing tablets are made from plywood, which is fixed on a frame base. The frame gives the structure rigidity and keeps the paper even, even if the material interacts with water.

    Products are designed to create professional works. They are used by both painters and architects.

    The popularity of such stands in the market is growing rapidly. Hence the question arises of how to stretch the paper on the tablet.

    What is used to stretch the canvas

    To do this, use glue, pushpins, a stapler. The latter option is preferable for artists, since the glue forms a film on the surface of the stand, which accumulates a thick layer over time and the stand deteriorates, and the buttons are not practical and constantly break.

    How to stretch paper on a tablet with a stapler

    Take the device. Insert special hardened staples of increased strength into it. They do not break on a tree, which cannot be said about ordinary ones.

    Important! You can buy everything you need at any construction, hardware or stationery store. This is a profitable option, especially if you plan to draw on the tablet more than once.

    Cut off a piece of drawing paper or take a ready-made canvas of paper of the required size. Note that the sheet should go around the frame by 4-5 cm. The stock of paper will allow you to bend and pin the ends of the material so that it is securely attached to the frame. You can choose watercolor paper for painting with paints.

    Before stretching the paper on the tablet, the sheet is abundantly soaked on both sides under the shower. After letting the paper dry a little, spread it on the table. On top of the sheet, centering, put the frame.

    Insert the staples into the stapler and drive them into the frame around its perimeter, firmly pressing the tip of the tool against the wood. This work is not difficult, and even a schoolboy can cope with the task.

    Having fixed all sides, go to the corners of the canvas. This is the most crucial stage.

    Before stretching the paper on the tablet, it is worked out with a damp brush. When carrying out the procedure, try to do the work before the paper dries. Remember to be careful. The corners are wrapped like this: they bend the paper from the corner and carefully wrap it up. The crumpled paper is turned sideways, then up. To fix the corners more securely, a few more staples are driven in between the centers and corners.

    After that, the wooden drawing tablet is turned over and left to dry in a horizontal position. In no case do not place the stand, leaning on the battery, otherwise the bottom edge of the paper may become limp and lose its aesthetic appearance. The drying process can be accelerated with a hair dryer.

    Having done everything right, be satisfied with the result. The drawing stand is well covered if the work looks neat.

    Rules for fixing paper on the tablet

    Stretching paper on the frame is not so difficult, the main thing is to follow the recommended rules:

    • fold only paper that is well moistened on both sides;
    • carefully make the corners, giving them the necessary shape and fasten them even more carefully;
    • dry the wooden drawing board only in a horizontal position so that the surface of the paper dries evenly.

    Thus, the frame is quickly and easily covered with paper. You can start drawing.

    How to stretch paper on a tablet using PVA glue

    To attach the paper canvas to the frame, you will need PVA glue, a glass of water and a sheet of paper of a suitable size and quality. For drawing with honey paints, special watercolor canvases are bought. For drawing with a pencil - ordinary Whatman paper.

    Important! When planning to stretch the paper when using PVA glue, in no case smear the entire surface of the tablet with it. Glue is applied only to a wooden frame, otherwise both the stand and the paper will deteriorate.

    Canvas preparation

    Before attaching paper to the tablet, degrease it and remove unnecessary items from the table. Lay a sheet of paper on a horizontal surface with the rough side down and pour some water on it, smoothly distributing the liquid over the surface of the canvas with a brush. Moisten the paper evenly, working through all the dried areas.

    The paper is left to absorb moisture. The soaking time depends on the thickness, weight and quality of the paper. After waiting 5-10 minutes, the canvas is gently smoothed, removing excess liquid.

    A drawing stand is carefully placed on the prepared sheet of paper, trying to position the frame in the middle. The end of the tablet is smeared with glue. Don't overdo it or it will leak under the frame and ruin the canvas.

    The edges of the paper are folded up and tightly wrapped around the wooden frame, gluing them to the ends.

    Important! To make the paper stick better, it is slightly moistened and pressed well against the end of the frame beforehow to stretch watercolor paper on a tablet.

    How to fix paper corners

    When working with corners, give Special attention paper tension. The ends of the tablet and the corner folds of the paper are worked out with glue, carefully folded.

    Important! When working, do not forget that the paper is wet and can easily tear.

    Having finished with one corner, they move on to the next, observing the sequence. It remains to process only the sides. The paper is folded similarly to the long sides of the structure. From the ends are pressed so that a right angle is obtained. After completing the work, the product is placed in a horizontal position and wait until the glue and moistened paper dry.

    A tablet is a board or a wooden frame, and now you know how to stretch drawing paper on a tablet. They come in different sizes, and paper is stretched onto the surface of such a stand and fastened with buttons or masking tape. It is more convenient to draw this way, because the canvas will not slip anywhere.

    Now you can test the theoretical knowledge on how to fix the canvas on a wooden tablet for paper by experience, and this recommendation will serve as a handy guide in the process of doing the work.

    Art is so beautiful, especially if you work in comfortable conditions!
