Several ways to find out the brand and model of the motherboard on a computer or laptop. How to find out the motherboard model of your computer Motherboard name

There are situations when you need to urgently find out the model motherboard computer or laptop. Such information may be needed after reinstalling the Windows operating system, especially when it has an integrated network and sound card, which the system does not detect due to the lack of the motherboard driver itself. We offer some tips on how to find out the model of the motherboard.

The first thing you can do is look at the box for the motherboard (in case it was bought separately) or in the instructions for the computer or laptop. But what to do if the instructions were not at hand, perhaps you lost it or threw it away. Luckily, there are other methods to find out motherboard data that don't involve looking for boxes and cabinet manuals.

The easiest option is to look at the name on the motherboard itself. To do this, remove the cover from the system unit and look for its name on the board. There should be information about the manufacturer and model, for example, GICABYTE, MSI, ASUS.

Information about the model is recorded not only on the board itself - it is also recorded in the BIOS and can be easily identified using the appropriate command or a special utility.

Board recognition via command line

Using the built-in tools of Windows 7/8/10, you can determine which model is installed on your computer. To do this, follow the instructions:

Open a command line console. This is not difficult to do - click on the Start button, in the menu that opens, select Search or Run and enter the cmd command.

In the console on a black screen, type Systeminfo and confirm by pressing Enter. After a while, a list will appear on the screen, which will display all the data about installed equipment on a laptop or desktop computer and system information.

Find the lines "System Manufacturer" and "System Model" in the list, in which the data you are looking for about the manufacturer and model of the installed motherboard are presented.

There are several more commands with which you can find out information about your device.

In order to find out specifically the name, enter "wmic baseboard get product" on the command line. Only the line "System Model" will be displayed on the screen. Type "wmic baseboard get Manufacturer" to identify the device manufacturer.

In our opinion, these are the most simple methods identify the motherboard command line"cmd", which will suffice for most. But to find out more detailed information about the device, we offer several more ways.

Device identification via System Information

Similar data can be found in a more user-friendly window using the standard Windows applications"System Information". For this:

Press combination Windows keys+ R to bring up the Run window.

Enter the command msinfo32 and confirm with Enter.

The System Information section opens and provides information about your computer. We find the lines that display information about the motherboard, respectively, "Manufacturer" and "Model".

How to find out the device through CPU-Z

If the information provided by the built-in Windows tools is incomplete and does not suit you, you can use the CPU-Z utility. This is a fairly popular program for determining computer hardware. So, how to find out the model of the motherboard using this program.

Run it, and then go to the Mainboard tab. In the Manufacturer and Model fields, you can find out detailed information about the installed device. In the case of laptops, system windows tools not always displayed full information about the motherboard, while the CPU-Z utility is able to determine its more accurate name and provide more advanced information.

And, even if the drivers were installed automatically or using specialized programs, you will not be able to upgrade your computer without knowing anything about the motherboard.

Search for packaging and receipts

The first way, the simplest and most commonplace, is to search for instructions and equipment boxes.

If the packaging has not yet been thrown away, it should also indicate the model of the board, and a number of other information.

If the box is no longer there, you can use sources of information such as:

  • A sales receipt (not to be confused with a cash receipt), on which the full name of the equipment is often written.
  • Equipment warranty card.

Advice! The coupon should be kept in any case, even after the end of the warranty - sometimes the addresses and phone numbers of services are indicated there, where the board can be repaired in the event of a breakdown.

  • Installation disks. Often they are designed for several board models, but sometimes they are designed for only 1-2. And at least you will have an approximate name.

visual way

In order to determine the model of the board on the computer in a visual way, you will need to turn off the power, find a screwdriver of the right size and provide sufficient lighting.

  1. Unscrew the bolts from the side cover of the system unit. Sometimes there are two and both are removed. In this case, you most likely need a lid that has fewer ventilation holes.
    Or the opposite of the one that heats up the most when the computer is running;
  2. After removing the cover, look at the labeling of the board. It is not always in a conspicuous place. Often the "motherboard" is labeled with PCI slot or the processor.
  3. As you can see from the image, the name of the board in this case is H61MV-ITX. It is he who will have to be driven into the search bar of the browser to search for drivers or characteristics.

The above method cannot be called convenient and safe.

First, because system unit may be under warranty, and after opening the case, it is likely to be invalid.

Secondly, others can interfere with finding the name of the board installed devices, and it’s better not to shoot them without experience.

Thirdly, there are other options to find out the name of the board.

Using Windows Tools

One of the easiest and fastest methods to determine the name of a board is to use the command line to invoke the system utilities.

This will require no installation additional programs, but just the following instructions:

  1. Open the "Run" menu (via "Start" or by pressing the keys "Windows" + "R");
  2. Enter the wmic baseboard get Manufacturer command (getting the manufacturer's name, for example, ASUSTek) and wmic baseboard get product (gives the board model, for example, P8H61-MX).

Another utility from Microsoft, launched through the same command execution menu, has similar functionality. Only msinfo32 is already entered in the window.

In the window that opens, you can find the characteristics of your motherboard. The parameters in the list may be in a different order and even in English.

However, as you can see, sometimes this method does not help to determine either the manufacturer or the model of the board.

However, just like the previous version, using other commands. Therefore, it is possible that in order to determine the name of the “motherboard”, you will have to download and install additional software.

Software Definition

Using the software to determine the parameters of the board is quite simple.

The problem can only arise if the missing drivers just do not allow you to connect to the Internet.

You can prevent such a situation by writing appropriate programs to a disk (not a system one) in advance.

CPU-Z utility

The program will allow you to get all the information about the processor and the board in a few seconds. Download it on the official website of the manufacturer.

After opening the program and going to the Mainboard tab, they look for the necessary data in the Manufacturer and Model lines.

AIDA64

The same task as CPU-Z is performed by the program formerly known as EVEREST. The problem with using it is that you can install it on your computer for free only for 30 days.

The extension of this period is paid, but a couple of minutes is enough to determine the brand of the fee.

You can find information by clicking on the Motherboard icon. The name of the board and a lot of other useful information will appear in the window that opens.

And if necessary, using the same program, you can update all the drivers for both the "motherboard" and other components.

How to find motherboard model

From this video you will learn how to determine the model of your motherboard (system) board.

How to find out, what motherboard model is installed on your computer or laptop? This information may be needed if you reinstalled Windows and now want to download required drivers on chipset, sound, network card. Or, for example, you decide to upgrade your computer and want to buy a new one more powerful processor. In this case, you also need to know the model of your motherboard.
In today's article I will tell you what are the ways to find out the model of the installed motherboard.

1. The first way is with command line. For me personally, this is the easiest way and, let's say, less energy-intensive.

To call the command line in Windows, go to "Start" - "Run" (or just press the keyboard shortcut Win+R). In the window that opens, type cmd and click OK:
The command line will launch. In it you need to enter the command:

for determining motherboard models: wmic baseboard get product

for determining motherboard manufacturer: wmic baseboard get manufacturer

After entering any command, press the key Enter on keyboard:

2. The second way to find out the motherboard model using Windows itself is to call the standard utility “System Information”.

Again we go to “Start” - “Run” (or just press the key combination on the keyboard Win+R). In the window that opens, enter the command msinfo32 and click OK:
will start System Information utility: here in the right column we will see the manufacturer and model of the motherboard (in rare cases, the standard utility does not display the name of the board):

3. The next way is to use third party program, which is called .

This program provides complete information about the hardware installed in your computer. The program is paid, but the first 30 days of use is free.

Run the downloaded file - install the program. Then we open installed program and go to tab main board. Here we see the model and manufacturer of the motherboard:

5. The fifth way is not software. You can remove the system unit cover by unscrewing a couple of screws with a screwdriver. After that, carefully look at the motherboard - its name will be printed on the textolite of the board itself:

6. If you have left motherboard box, then you can see the name on it:

7. If preserved User's Manual to the motherboard, then the name will be written on its cover:

8. Also the model name of the motherboard can be see immediately after turning on the computer(during the self-test of the board). To do this, press the key Pause on the keyboard (to pause the download) and read the name of the motherboard on the monitor screen. It will be written above the processor model:

- today we will look at how to find out the motherboard model on a computer. Updating drivers, checking hardware compatibility and purely out of curiosity - ... using the methods of checking the motherboard model given in the note is much easier than disassembling the computer and studying the stickers inside the system unit.

You can simulate quite a lot of situations in which it is very important to know the model of the motherboard: a banal driver update, buying a new hardware (to find out what can be added to the system and whether there are the necessary slots for this, for example, to expand the RAM) ...

If you have preserved the documents that are issued along with the computer (or individual positions for components, if you selected the components yourself), you can find out the answers to your question there. Perhaps it is even The best way, because you can check the correspondence of the real situation with what is indicated in your docks.

In principle, I will not tell you how to find out the name of the motherboard by opening the system unit - in the modern situation this is absolutely not necessary, because software ways provide more information than just visual inspection motherboards.

Of course, I do not deny that you can find out the model by looking at the board itself (I'm not so stubborn as to say that this should never be done), and an advanced user probably knows where and what to see ... well, I recommend that we use the simplest and most correct methods

Method 1. Find out the name of the motherboard through the command line

If you enjoy using the Windows command line, you can easily find out your motherboard model using Microsoft's powerful WMIC tool.

With WMIC we can query the baseboard to check the motherboard and some additional options such as serial number, revision and other detailed information about your mother. Let's try with an example to find out the manufacturer of our motherboard, model and serial number using WMIC.

The program is in English, but this will not be a problem for us, we are specifically interested in the Motherboard line - this is the name of our motherboard.

Despite such a small size (less than 1 megabyte in archive) the program can tell a lot about your computer, but I would not recommend using it ... find out what kind of motherboard is on the computer - it is great, for everything else there are more convenient analogues.

Method 3. AIDA64 - find out the motherboard model

There are several editions of AIDA64, we are fine with the version Extreme Edition(the app costs money, but 30 days is fine for us) trial version, indicated on the download page as TRIAL)

After installing AIDA64, run the program and find the "Motherboard" icon on the left side. In the window that opens, in the second line "System board" the manufacturer and model of the motherboard will be displayed. As you can see in my computer the name of the motherboard is Asus P8H67.

If you scroll down to the end of the window, you can find a link to the fresh BIOS download page (the "Download BIOS updates" line). This can be useful if the purpose of determining the motherboard firmware new version BIOS firmware

Method 4. Piriform Speccy - a good program from the developers of Ccleaner

If you have ever used CCleaner and she left you only positive emotions with her result, then the small Speccy program from the developers of the same Cclener (Piriform) will answer the question of how to find out the motherboard model. Download as always on the official website:

Launch the application and on the left side go to the "System board" tab. On the right side in the "Model" line there will be an answer to our question - in our case it is P8H67 (LGA1155) ...

Not only did the program correctly determine the name of the motherboard installed in the computer, but it also showed its socket (1155) and many more useful information(such as voltage, BIOS version and system temperature)

Method 5. CPU-Z - will tell not only about the processor

CPU-Z is a very popular utility for identifying the processor, but is great for identifying the motherboard model on a computer. The program is absolutely free and does not require installation, just download the latest version from the official website

After starting the utility, go to the "Mainboard" tab and in the "Model" line there will be the name of the installed motherboard. I have a P8H67 motherboard in my computer (yet testimony all applications match)

For many, the BIOS block will be useful, the version and manufacturer of the firmware are displayed here ...

Method 6. HWiNFO32 - detailed information about the motherboard

To download the program, go to the official website (there are several versions of the program - HWiNFO32 for 32-bit systems and HWiNFO for 64-bit systems). In my case, I downloaded HWiNFO64.

After installing the appropriate version of HWiNFO, launch it (it may take a long time to start collecting information about your computer's components). The program will automatically display the "System Summary" screen, where the motherboard model will be shown in the "Motherboard" section

By the way, please note that HWiNFO correctly identified the video card ... you should add it to the note about video cards

Method 7. Sisoftware Sandra - an underestimated program

When I was looking for information on how to look at the motherboard on a computer, I never came across such an application as Sandra Lite in the reviews (we will use it, since specifically Lite- distributed free of charge). As usual, you can download it on the official website, avoid leftist sources ...

After installing Sisoftware Sandra Lite, launch the program and go to the "Devices" tab. In the window that appears, double-click on the "Motherboard" icon and wait until the utility collects all necessary information. Detailed information about your motherboard will open in a new window, in the "Model" line and there will be an answer to the question how to find out the model of the motherboard?

This section displays not only the name of your motherboard, here you will find quite a lot of other useful information about your motherboard. For example, you can find out how much memory and how many slots for it in total ... or the chipset model on which your system is built

BONUS! Information about the motherboard in the HTML report

This application is called LookInMyPC and you can download it from the developers website (in English, there is portable version does not require installation)

http://www.lookinmypc.com/download.htm

After launch, you can choose what exactly to generate a report about, but we leave everything as it is and click the “Generate Report” button ... all that remains is to wait until the report is generated - this is fast.

The file with the report will open in any browser, in the "BIOS Information" block in the line "Board Product ID" and there will be the name of our motherboard.

In fact, the report contains a lot of interesting and useful information, and as for in EnglishGoogle Chrome translates wonderfully.

The report generates a lot of data about the software part, and you can view it at any time without the program itself - this is very convenient

What have we learned about the motherboard? - Conclusions

Friends, we have considered several ways to find out the model of the motherboard. As you understood from the note, it is quite possible to do this without disassembling the system unit - there are more civilized methods.

What to do with this information? - even if you need to visually look at your motherboard, it is quite possible to find its image and specifications on the official website by model name.

If your personal computer or laptop is not working due to missing or outdated drivers, or it has sound problems, this is an easy fix. But only if you know the motherboard model and its exact name.

The motherboard model can be found in the documents. But if you threw away the box with them after purchase or they do not indicate the model, you will have to use other options. One of the methods listed below will help you identify your motherboard model. Four ways:

  1. Use a utility or application specially designed for this to determine;
  2. Use the command line if you have an operating system Windows system 7, 8 or 10;
  3. Open the system unit and inspect the motherboard;
  4. Use system utility for Windows 7, 8 or 10.

Special programs for viewing PC characteristics (including the motherboard)

Developers have created a range of special applications(utilities) designed to determine the models of motherboards. It is impossible to consider everything, there are dozens of them. We have selected the most effective and easy to use. A minimalist interface without fancy features will allow even the most inexperienced user to determine their motherboard model for a laptop or personal PC.

Speccy

This utility is one of the most effective. You can download one of three versions on the developer's website. It is completely free, has a Russian-speaking user interface, works in all Win versions and is very easy to use. Find the section " Motherboard» and find out who is the manufacturer of your motherboard on a netbook or mobile / personal computer and its exact model. Look at the image below.

The utility was created for the convenience of the user. It not only finds the motherboard model, but also allows you not to enter its number manually, but to use the clipboard. Copy and find in search engine such as updates for outdated drivers.

AIDA

This utility will not only allow you to determine the manufacturer and model of the PC board, you can also use other useful features. For example, AIDA will help you find information on an application or driver, HDD, video card and other components. With this utility, you can find out almost everything about your mobile or personal computer!

But to fully use it, you have to pay. The trial version does not have advanced functionality and is limited to just a few options.

Visual inspection of the motherboard

If you do not want to download and install a special set of programs, inspect the motherboard visually. If your computer is not a cheap Chinese assembly, the correct markings should be stamped on the board.

If the manufacturer of the motherboard that is on your computer is ASUS, then you will see, for example, the following marking: “ASUS 970 PRO GAMING / AURA”. Feel free to write this name in the search engine and update outdated drivers.

If the manufacturer is Gigabyte, the marking will look something like this: "Gigabyte GA P110 D3 02".

Visually inspecting the board on a personal computer is simple and quick, just open the system unit and rewrite the alphanumeric value. But with mobile computers it's not so easy. Disassembling laptops is not an easy task. But then you can accurately determine the model.

How to find out the motherboard model on the command line

Another way for those who do not want to install utilities. This method is valid for all Windows families: 7, 8 and 10.

The command line is opened in two ways:

cmd and press the "Enter" key.
cmd and press the "Enter" key

Then enter two commands in turn, pressing "Enter" in succession:
  • wmic baseboard get manufacturer;
  • wmic baseboard get product.

How to determine the motherboard model in Windows 7, 8 and 10 without programs?

To find out, you need to enter the following value in the "command execution" window: msinfo32
The first method for Windows 7Click in Windows "Start" enter the value msinfo32 and press the "Enter" key.
The second method for Windows 7,8 and 10Press the combination of buttons "Win + R" enter the value msinfo32 and press the "Enter" key

When the window opens, you should select the "Information about operating system". There you will see all the data about your mobile or personal computer. There are several characteristics regarding the version, model of the board and mobile computer, processor and others.

This is how you can easily determine the model and manufacturer of the motherboard. You can use the most convenient way: with or without the utility.
