Smart watch samsung gear fit 2. Smart watch Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit2 Pro

Samsung is one of the market leaders in wearable electronics. A key success factor is that the company has its own technologies for all aspects without exception. similar devices. High-quality, including curved screens, microprocessors and memory chips, OS The company spends huge amounts of money on R&D. As a result, its bracelets are the most advanced in both hardware and software.

Samsung smart bracelets are well known to me since their appearance in Ukraine in the summer of 2014. Distinctive features of the family, which attracted the attention and wallets of users, are a curved AMOLED display with a large diagonal, discreet high-quality design, good autonomy and excellent implementation of basic functionality. My wife is still wearing the very first version of the Gear Fit for the third year because she does not find an adequate replacement. About how the Gear line began, you can read in my opus of those times.

The pronouncedly sporty design of the second version instantly narrowed the potential audience to people who, firstly, go in for sports or lead a healthy lifestyle (healthy lifestyle, wellness) and, secondly, do not need a bracelet outside the gym. I bought a gadget, almost one of the first in the country, but my wife refused it due to aesthetic considerations. For the wife, the main value of Gear Fit is the call and message alert function. She does not carry her phone in her pocket, she has a bag for such things. And the bag is far from the place from which you can hear the call or squeak of the messenger, especially on the street, in the subway or in a crowded place.

What did they prepare for us in Gear Fit 2 Pro?

First of all, the long-awaited return to the original style of the Gear line is striking. Strict black color sets the general mood, geometric patterns and elements of red color add the right bit of emotion. Gear Fit 2 Pro can be worn under office clothes again, which is a good thing. The clasp of the bracelet has changed: instead of pins, a time-tested classical scheme. Bracelets are sold in two sizes - S and L. The second is definitely not suitable for ladies, and not every man will fit - it's better to try on before buying.

Gear Fit 2 Pro

As in the flagship S8/S8+ smartphones, the AlwaysOn function is implemented in the bracelet. This radically simplifies the use of one of the main functions - the display of time. You no longer need to choose between convenience and autonomy, work out the correct gesture “raising your hand with a turn” and annoying your neighbors in the cinema hall. In standby mode, the screen displays a minimum of information with low brightness. Enabling this function slightly increases power consumption, for which, in fact, it is intended.

Generally Pro version this is exactly an update of the Gear Fit 2 model. The differences are present and cannot be said to be insignificant, but in general we are talking about working on bugs. Among other things, increased water protection is announced: now you can safely swim in the bracelet, including in open water. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to explore this aspect, so I can not say anything about it.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro and healthy lifestyle

Samsung continues to focus on wellness and sports features. For example, the Gear Fit 2 Pro was designed to be the perfect gadget for swimmers. In addition to the corresponding hardware capabilities, it was stuffed with software features, including software components developed jointly with Speedo. I met absolutely rave reviews on this subject, however, I repeat, I did not have the opportunity to personally verify these aspects.

The possibility of continuous and fairly accurate, with an error of less than 10%, instrumental measurements of physiological parameters right in the course of training made a real revolution in both amateur and professional sports. It's like the appearance of first adding machines, and then electronic calculators in accounting. Representatives of the old school, perhaps, are really more comfortable in the old fashioned way, on the abacus, but, let's face it, this is already pure archaism, like fountain pens. For people over 40, heart rate monitoring during any intense training is a prerequisite for obtaining health insurance in several countries. On the other hand, I know people who had no idea how little their children were moving until they had the opportunity to find out for sure by giving them bracelets with a step counting function.

First the pros

I'll start with a function that is implemented in Gear Fit 2 Pro really well, a solid five. Unlike most competitors, the device recognizes sleep with high accuracy at any time of the day, confidently distinguishing it from just passive sitting on the couch, for example. Most likely, the built-in heart rate sensor (pulse monitor) is used for this. Having fixed a prolonged immobility, the device additionally checks the pulse and if it has dropped to certain values, it defines this state as sleep. For comparison, professional fitness devices from Garmin and Polar consider sleep only what happens during the specified interval of the day. Some fitness bracelets even require you to manually indicate your bedtime.

The bracelet automatically recognizes different kinds exercises. Squats, push-ups and press - almost without errors. You set the number of sets and repetitions, the interval between sets and forward.

Who might need it? I suppose that during high-intensity training, when the number of repetitions goes to tens, and the attention has already “floated” from fatigue, automatic counting may be required. Exercises such as jumping “legs together, legs apart” with hands clapping overhead, the bracelet, in fact, did not count. Out of ten jumps, he recorded two or three, or even less.

Now the cons

Samsung still does not implement support for chest straps that support Bluetooth. This makes the Gear Fit 2 Pro useless for professional sports. The fact is that the built-in sensor of the bracelet uses the photoplethysmography method - optical, to put it simply. When the heart rate (HR) rises above 110-120 beats / min, artifacts begin to appear, obviously unreliable pulse jumps. The sensor, simply put, starts to lie and is very noticeable. As an experiment, I put on a conventional chest strap based on electrocardiography (Polar H7) and ran, measuring the pulse at the same time with a bracelet and a chest strap. The average indicators differ insignificantly, but the maximum (peak) ones differ too much.

Excessive error at high load does not allow the Gear Fit 2 Pro to be used as a tool for real-time monitoring of full-fledged workouts cyclic species sports - running, cycling and other "cardio". But with low physical activity and at rest, the Gear Fit 2 Pro does an excellent job. The sensor is also suitable for measuring the overall load level, since artifacts do not greatly distort the final data. In mode permanent job the battery is discharged in 10-14 hours, that is, daylight hours. This is quite enough to collect statistics or test hypotheses. If the sensor is set to periodic measurements, it turns out a little more than a day of work.

A similar problem came to light when examining the built-in GPS / GLONASS sensor. I compared its readings with the Garmin Fenix 3, a professional sports device from another price category. Gear Fit 2 Pro showed the same path 4-5% shorter. At first I thought that a more expensive device is a priori more accurate, but I decided to check just in case. He put the watch on one hand, the bracelet on the other, squeezed the third device in his fist - a smartphone with the running program turned on - and ran. The results surprised me, because all three devices gave different data.

Advantages over "professional devices"

It turns out that even seemingly professional expensive devices determine their position in space with a fair amount of error. The same Garmin continues to use not the best, let's say, microcircuits from MTK, which leads to systematic errors, especially when calculating vertical movement (rough terrain, mountains, etc.). Added to the flaws in the design are the imperfection of components, assembly and operation problems, a great many reasons why it is pointless to hope to find out "as it really is." In fact, there is no golden standard for measuring distance, speed and their derivatives. It must be assumed that any device gives an error of up to 5–7, or even 10%, especially in special conditions - urban development, precipitation, etc.

Based on these premises, the Gear Fit 2 Pro has everything in order with the positioning functions. The device correctly measures speed, distance, change in altitude above sea level. It is quite enough for walking, jogging and other outdoor exercise. Turning on GPS / GLONASS greatly reduces battery life, so you should limit yourself to training.

Speaking about Gear Fit 2 Pro as a device for practicing a healthy lifestyle, one cannot fail to mention S Health, a kind of software hub for everything related to healthy lifestyle. At one time, Samsung was the first manufacturer to create and begin to promote a healthy lifestyle solution as an integral element of the functionality of its smartphones. Today, S Health provides a lot of opportunities that I will not even list. The main thing to remember is that the most expensive and high-quality tool will help you only when you are doing something. If you are already taking care of your health, keeping track of your activity and diet, setting measurable goals for yourself and working hard to achieve them, then S Health is for you. Installing this program by itself will not perform a miracle and will not set you on the right path.

And about the main drawback of the device

In Gear Fit 2, the diagonal of the device has noticeably decreased: from 1.84″ to 1.5″ (however, its resolution has increased from 432 × 128 pixels to 432 × 216 pixels). At the same time, there was a significant expansion of the functionality of the bracelet: both sports functions and basic ones. Interface developers could not resist the temptation to go the way of increasing the density of information displayed on the screen and dramatically reduced the font size. As a result, even at the maximum value of its size, it remains not large enough for comfortable use, especially on the go. I just can't make it out, that's the trouble.

Max font size

As people age, they develop farsightedness. Alas, my eyes already require glasses, and the size of the interface elements of wrist devices is becoming one of the critical factors. The interface of the first Gear Fit model is for me the standard of what it should be.

In its development, the Gear Fit line has come to the point where there is a need for differentiation, the next allocation of new potential niches. The company can go down the path of creating separate devices for each niche, or it can do it more gracefully. Already, the hardware capabilities of the bracelet allow you to solve the most different tasks satisfying completely different needs. Someone needs sports functions, someone is only interested in notification of calls. It seems to me that it would be sufficient to provide for such specialization at the interface level. Depending on their preferences, the user directly through standard menu could change the interface and the set of functions available to it. This would greatly simplify the lives of many users, saving them from having to deal with what they definitely will not use. Reducing the functionality of a single mode will make it possible to optimize user interface, including the size of its elements.

In the dry matter

The autonomy of the bracelet has not changed in a noticeable way. With Wi-Fi, GPS and heart rate sensor turned off, AlwaysOn turned on, regularly viewing notifications and monitoring sleep, the Gear Fit 2 Pro worked for me for up to two and a half days.

The Gear Fit 2 Pro made a generally favorable impression on me. If you are already ripe to buy a fitness bracelet for yourself - definitely take it. If you are thinking in the direction of a smart watch, you should also consider this device. Functionally, it fully meets the expectations of a smart watch, differing only in design. The company did some serious work on the bugs, the second version of Gear Fit became what it should have been. I added the Gear Fit 2 Pro to my shopping list at New Year. It's time to change the veteran.

Back in 2014, Samsung introduced the first fitness tracker of the Gear Fit line. It was a good decision, and quite unusual - if only because it was the first to use a curved display. In 2015, the buyer did not wait for the update of the line of "smart" sports bracelets. The manufacturer allegedly focused on watches then. But since 2016, he again remembered Gear Fit and now in my hands latest version fitness bracelet - .

The bracelet is delivered in such a black box. Tastefully packaged, no frills. Comes with only Charger and a set of documentation. Nothing unusual, but done with high quality and you immediately understand that this is not an ordinary Chinese tracker, which is now heaps at any price and in any color.

Design and materials

Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro is quite a compact bracelet. The case is made of very light but durable plastic. The bracelet is available in two versions: pure black with a striped strap and black and red with some triangles on the strap. Both versions are cute and look interesting.

1.5" curved display with a resolution of 432x216 pixels is made using Super AMOLED technology and has excellent performance characteristics.

The design of a fitness bracelet is not much different from. For example, they changed the design of the strap. Many complained that the previous version of the gadget, with active sports, strove to fly off the arm. In the Pro version, the Koreans decided not to bother and stuck a classic clasp. They say not junk, but a classic. Well, the clasp turned out to be really reliable, and it looks very organic on a fitness bracelet.

The strap is quite elastic and flexible, so wearing the watch on your hand is as comfortable as possible. The strap is removable, but the fastening is such that it can only be replaced with branded straps.

Gear Fit2 Pro Performance

The watch is equipped with Exynos 3250 dual-core processor, 512 MB random access memory and 4 GB permanent. This is quite enough to throw a hundred or two music files on the tracker and forget about the phone while jogging. Very comfortable, I would have bought them just for that. The clock works very quickly and without any hangups. And the interface as a whole is pleasant, you quickly get used to it and just use it with pleasure.

Functionality and software

There are over 3,000 watch apps available on the Galaxy App store, most of them watch faces, so you're sure to find one that suits your taste.

The set of applications in the watch is very standard, as for an advanced fitness bracelet. Here you have heart rate measurement (by the way, three monitoring modes are now available) and step tracking and training recording, various activity statistics that are constantly collected and accumulated in a proprietary smartphone application.

If your smartphone is from Samsung, then you need to install only one application from Google Play. If you have an Android smartphone from another manufacturer, then you will need to install additional plugins.

The toolbox includes an app for entering the amount of water you drink, and for keeping track of your caffeine intake. Unfortunately, I did not find an application for assessing the quality of sleep, but this application is simply necessary for me.

The tracker can easily perform the functions of a smart watch. Answering the call from him will not work, the call will automatically be accepted on the smartphone. But as far as notifications are concerned, everything is much more rosy. You can set up template answers in the application and answer with already prepared phrases right from the watch.

Fitness and sports

I am not an ardent athlete, and I like to train as long as the body is capable of it and there is strength. But if you have a specific goal every day, for example, walk a couple of tens of thousands of steps or exercise certain time, then Gear Fit2 Pro will help you with this. Just set your goals and train. When the required indicators are reached, the watch will signal that the training can be completed. Here is such a wrist trainer, which is always at hand.

When tracking workouts, by the way, the tracker itself understands what kind of activity you are doing. And by the way, it is extremely difficult to deceive him.

If you, say, indicate swimming, then don’t wave your arms, and the Gear Fit2 Pro will not count strokes. By the way, for swimmers there is a special abundance. You can specify the length of the pool and the watch will count both the number of strokes and the number of distances you have swum.

Since we are talking about water sports, it is worth noting that the moisture protection of the previous model of the bracelet was according to the IP68 standard. This level of protection allows the device to be at a depth of 1 meter for half an hour. Now the moisture protection is improved and meets the standard of the American army. The Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro can withstand up to an hour at a depth of 50 meters. Can you be at a depth of 50 meters? I can't...

autonomy

The battery capacity of the fitness bracelet is 200 mAh. This is quite enough for comfortable use of the gadget. With various tracking enabled (heart rate and GPS), the "Always on Display" function and active listening to music during training, the tracker will live on a single charge for a day. If you turn off the "extra" functions that actively eat up the battery, you can get three days of work.

Gear Fit2 Pro charges quickly, so it's enough to put them in the evening for an hour to charge.

conclusions

Excellent fitness tracker, one of the best in its class. Yes, of course, now the market is full of bracelets and much cheaper, but let's be honest, all of them are seriously inferior in functionality to the hero of our review. In addition, in the case of this gadget, we get an excellent display and a nice interface, as well as continued support watch maker and a huge app store.

And with such a protected watch, you yourself will feel almost invincible. Well, I felt (quite a bit). The Gear Fit 2 Pro is a great replacement for both your old pedometer and regular ones. wrist watch, a device that you get used to so quickly that you can’t understand how you used to live without it. So if you are not going to buy them, then please do not even try them on, otherwise it will be difficult to part with them.

Display: Samsung flexes its muscles

Smart, functional, customizable and accurate should be the fitness tracker you choose. Does Samsung with its Gear Fit2 Pro (costs about 13,000 rubles), as they say, hit the bull's-eye? That's the question that Samsung's latest wearable should have answered during our comprehensive fitness gadget test.

Result: to the top of the corresponding rating quite a bit was not enough, but we really liked it first of all sports appearance , and luxury equipment.

The Gear Fit2 Pro boasts an impressive 1.5-inch curved display that shows you not only your daily fitness progress, but also notifications, phone call information and calendar entries. Through the integrated WLAN module, the wearable device connects to home network and without mobile phone, getting the opportunity to receive all notifications absolutely independently.

On reverse side The case is equipped with an optical heart rate monitor that continuously monitors your heart rate. To track your activity as accurately as possible, not only GPS, but also GLONASS modules are installed on board. This makes the Gear Fit2 Pro a truly accurate tracker, although the variant without the “Pro” in the name performed even better in this area during testing.

Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro: Curved touchscreen lets you navigate through a wide range of available apps

Fitness trainer with tons of apps

While the real highlight of this gadget is, of course, its curved display, its large number of options for customization can also be called impressive: various multiple watch faces with unique combinations of displayed information and colors are always ready for download in the Galaxy App Store, as well as all sorts of applications for fitness and everyday activities.

Samsung itself announces over 3000 apps and watch faces- while, of course, not all utilities are free. Nevertheless, individualists will be able to come off here, as they say, to the fullest.

Fans of water and swimming should also feel satisfied, because now Gear Fit2 Pro are protected from water pressure of 5 atmospheres, that is, they are suitable for diving to depth up to 50 meters and therefore suitable for swimming. That was reason enough for a swimming expert like Speedo to include their respective app in the package. Thus, this tracker can independently measure time, distance and traffic intensity.

Generally speaking, the gadget recognizes a variety of activities, including rowing, cycling, running or elliptical training, which makes it easy to analyze data in the Samsung Health App. This fitness tracker also has a sleep analyzer.

Energy storage for every occasion

As a matter of fact, it remains only to find out how long the Samsung tracker battery can last. During our test runs, the 200 mAh battery emptied itself in approximately 3.5 days. With the supplied magnetic charging station, Gear Fit2 Pro restore their energy reserves in about 2 hours. Considering the display used here, this figure is quite normal, although most competitors, of course, can last much longer.

Some problems during testing brought us the process of controlling the gadget - at least, when scrolling on a curved display, there are sensations that at first seem somewhat unusual.

We also missed the ambient light sensor, which would allow the screen to automatically adjust its brightness. This would be very useful, since especially in bright ambient light, reading content from the Gear Fit2 Pro's display sometimes becomes difficult.

And here's something a little weird: despite the fact that the gadget can connect with Samsung-, Android-, and iOS-devices, all the same for normal operation he needs two applications at once.

We really liked that bracelets can be changed here. On the Internet you can find a huge number of different interchangeable straps made of metal, plastic or leather. However, wearing the Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro with the standard bracelet we tested is quite comfortable.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 (Gear Fit 2)- "smart" watches for sports and fitness. Compared to Gear Fit 1, the second model in the series has several advantages: built-in GPS, improved water and dust resistance, compact screen and support third party applications. The design of the device has also changed.

Fast passage

Design and interface

The most noticeable change in the new model is the color. In addition to the dark gray hue, blue and pink were added. The color of the straps matches the color of the case, and the straps are now attached to the main unit separately, and are not a single unit, as they used to be.

The silicone strap closes with a metal latch that fits into the eyelet. Not the most reliable method given the wear and tear of the material, but the high strength of silicone compensates for this shortcoming. This method of fastening ensures that the strap does not accidentally unfasten during training.

The display has become less elongated, which reduced the likelihood of scratching it. The decision to shrink the screen took some of the elegance out of the Gear Fit and made it look different smart watch for fitness. On the sides of the display is protected by a metal plate that is resistant to abrasion. The constantly chafing silver trim of the previous model is now a thing of the past.

Mainly used for clock control touch screen, but there are also two buttons on the edge of the case - the large one performs the “back” command, and the other one opens the application menu on the dial or returns to main screen. The dial can be customized to display necessary information e.g. distance travelled.

On the side tabs are widgets with fitness information: the number of steps, floors climbed and heart rate. After pressing the small side button, the application menu will open.

All icons are arranged in a column one by one, which will not appeal to fans of installing dozens of applications.

Video: review, appearance and experience of use

Specifications

  • Screen: 1.5 inches, Super AMOLED.
  • Processor: Dual Core SoC: Samsung Exynos 3250 1GHz.
  • Memory: 512 RAM, 4 GB flash (about 2 GB available).
  • Sensors: gyroscope, heart rate sensor, barometer, accelerometer, gyroscope.
  • Additional features: Bluetooth, GPS.

For a smartwatch, these are impressive specs. A dual-core processor with a frequency of 1 GHz is enough for stable operation of the device. Compared to its predecessor, Gear Fit 2 has increased screen resolution to 216 x 432 pixels.

As a result - clearer icons, it is easier to make out small numbers. Of the 4 gigabytes of memory for storing files, only two are free, the rest of the space is occupied by system files.

The Gear Fit 2 runs on Linux-based Tizen OS, which, together with the Super AMOLED display, guarantees a low discharge rate.

In standby mode, the watch will work without recharging for at least three days (the developers claim five days). With the GPS turned on, a full battery charge takes 9 hours.

Functionality

To use the clock, you need any device with an OS android version from 4.4 and 1.5 GB RAM. You will need to install as many as four applications on this device, although you will only have to work with two:

  • Samsung Gear - manage widgets, music, settings and notifications;
  • S Health is the premier fitness information aggregator.

The basic set of applications on the watch allows you to count steps, distance traveled, the number of approaches in certain exercises (lunges, jumps, etc.), you can also record calories.

In addition to the basic functions for tracking workouts and nutrition, the S Health app supports a competitive mode. Connect with a friend and beat him on points in any exercise. The downside of this feature is that you can compete with only one person.

Contents of delivery

In the box with the fitness tracker itself, there is only a charging dock and a few pieces of paper.

Additional features:

  • On the back of the main unit is a heart rate sensor that works automatically and reads the readings if the watch fits snugly enough on the hand.
  • The device can detect when you are sleeping and count your sleep time.
  • Ability to listen to music with wireless headphones.
  • You can set the clock to turn on when you raise your hand - good way save charge.
