192.168 8.254 does not come in. How to open the Wi-Fi router settings (login to the web interface)

You try to enter the settings menu of a router, modem or optical ONT-terminal through http://192.168.1.1 and the “personal account” of the device does not open for you. What to do? Call the master and pay money? Don't rush and don't despair. Let's try to understand the problem together and decide how to enter the router ?!

I think it's good to know some theory first:
192.168.1.1 is the IP address (IP) of the network device. By default, the network is usually registered on routers: 192.168.1.0/24. In other words, the local network on the router is configured with the first (lowest) address in the subnet - 1, and the clients connected via the local network will use addresses with 2 on 254 . In general, this generally accepted rule is already configured for the vast majority of network devices - Zyxel Keenetic, Lincsys, Cisco, TP-Link, Upvel, Sagemcom, Asus. There are, of course, exceptions. For example, D-Link and Netgear routers use a different subnet by default - 192.168.0.0/24 and accordingly IP will be - . But, whatever one may say, the numbers are different, but the meaning is the same - that IP 192.168.1.1, that 192.168.0.1 is the address of a network device on the network. In our case -

How to access the router

Now let's move on to practice. To enter the settings of a WiFi router or ADSL modem, you must enter the address in the browser: http://192.168.1.1 . In this case, the protocol at the beginning - http: // or www - does not need to be typed, the browser itself will automatically substitute the necessary one.

If you have access to the settings, then you will see an authorization form on the device where you will need to enter your login and password (usually to enter the router on 192.168.1.1 use: admin / admin):

This means that the local network is configured, the router is available and there are no problems accessing its settings. We will consider the worst case scenario - the browser gives an error "Page not available" or "Unable to access the site":

Problems with accessibility of the web interface can be different. Let's look at the most common of them:

Instructions on how to enter 192.168.1.1.

Step 1. Check the activity of the network connection.

Very often, the reason for the inaccessibility of the router is the network cable disconnected from it.

At the same time, it is not necessary that someone pulled out the cable intentionally - the connector can simply move away from the network card connector by a millimeter and nothing will work anymore. Be sure to check the integrity of the cable - it may have been pinched somewhere or damaged by something. Please also note that the LAN cable must be connected to the LAN port of the device and not to the WAN port.

Otherwise, through the WAN port, you will not be able to access 192.168.1.1. This port is used to connect the ISP cable. But only!

Step 2: Checking the network indicators.

Here I mean the physical connection indicators both on the computer's network card and on the router itself. What are they? Typically, this is a green LED. If the network is active, the indicator is on or blinking quickly. We take your device in hand and look at the front panel. When turned on, the Power indicator must be lit - it means that the device is turned on. Then we look at the indicators of the LAN ports - they are usually marked either simply with numbers - 1, 2, 3, 4.

When plugging a patch cord into a LAN port- the indicator with the corresponding port number should light up. If it is not lit, try disconnecting the network patch cord and plugging it into the adjacent connector. If the indicator does not light up there either, try everything one by one. Did not help? Then you have the router is faulty - take it to the service.

Step 3: Check network settings.

At this stage, we need to check the settings of the network adapter - which IP is registered. To get into the network card settings on the Windows XP operating system, you must click the Start button, select the Network Connections section. In Windows 7 and Windows 8, press the key combination Win + R. The Run Program window opens. Here you need to type the phrase - control panel.

The Windows Control Panel will open, where you need to find the "Network and Internet" section.

We click on it with the left mouse button. The following window will open:

Now, to open the personal account of the router through 192.168.1.1, click on the link "Network and Sharing Center":

Select the menu item " Properties" . The Local Area Connections properties window opens:

Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and double-click on it with the left mouse button. In most cases, the IP settings are in automatic mode:

This is how the system was originally set up. This is done in order to facilitate the connection of the computer to the network. Thanks to this, if there is a DHCP server on the network, then Windows will receive an IP address, mask, gateway address and DNS from it.
But what if there is no DHCP server on the network, or is it disabled in the configuration? In this case, logging in via 192.168.1.1 to your personal account on automatic settings will not be available, since IP will be picked up from a special Microsoft subnet - 169.x.x.x. Of course, with this address, you will not have access to the router's WiFi address. Therefore, to enter its configurator, you need to register IP manually - check the box "Use the following IP address" and write the addresses as in the picture:

That is, the following should be written:
IP address - 192.168.1.2
Mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 192.168.1.1
Preferred DNS server - 192.168.1.1
Alternate DNS server - 8.8.8.8
Registered, click the "OK" button for the changes to take effect. We start the browser again and try to enter the router settings at 192.168.1.1. The personal account of the router is still unavailable?! Well, let's move on.

Step 4. Checking the Web Browser.

In the Control Panel, select the "Network and Internet" section :

Now you need to select the "Internet Options" item and open the "Connections" tab. Click the "Network Settings" button:

No proxy servers should be registered.

Keep in mind that a web browser is also a program and it may not work correctly. Therefore, be sure to install another browser - Firefox, Opera or Chrome - and try to enter the router via 192.168.1.1 (Zyxel Keenetic, TP-Link, ASUS, etc.).

Step 5. The node can be blocked by the Security System.

It may happen that your modem or router becomes inaccessible in the local area due to incorrect settings of the Windows Firewall or another firewall you have installed. To exclude this, do this:
We completely disable (with a service stop) the security system you installed - antivirus, firewall, etc.
Also, to exclude all options, we try to disable the standard Windows Firewall. It can also block IP 192.168.1.1 or an entire subnet. Go to the Control Panel, select the "Windows Firewall" section and completely deactivate the packet filter by clicking on the "Off" value.

On Windows 7 and Windows 10 Toolbars look for the section “Security System” -> “Windows Firewall” and select the menu item “Turn Windows Firewall on or off”.

Disable it completely for private and public networks.

Again we check access through 192.168.1.1 to the personal account of the modem or router.

If none of the above helped you, then only the following options for the development of events remain:

1 option- Changed the IP address on the router. That is, not 192.168.1.1 is used, but another IP - 192.168.0.1, 10.90.90.90, etc. In this case, it remains only to reset the device configuration parameters using the “Reset” button on the rear panel of the device and configure it again.

Option 2- Viruses and malware. Now there are a lot of different infections on the Internet, including viruses for routers that change some of their settings, after which it becomes quite problematic to enter the device’s web interface. Start by checking your computer or laptop for viruses.

3 option- check if you can access 192.168.1.1 from your phone or tablet by connecting to a WiFi network. The password for connecting to a wireless network is very often written on a sticker glued to the bottom of the device. If not, then, as an option, you can try using the WPS function. In this case, the PIN code will also be written on the sticker.

4 option- Hardware failure of your modem or router. In this case, the only way out is to carry it to the service.

Video lesson:

In this case, only 2 options are possible:
1 - Reset the settings with the "Reset" button, as described above, after which access to the modem settings should go without problems. But please note that after resetting the settings, the router will be pristine, and it will have to be completely configured from scratch.
2 - Look for the person who originally set up your device and ask for a password. If the master installer from the provider did this, then it is possible that he installs the same thing on all devices. If the settings were made by someone else, then he is unlikely to remember and still have to use "Reset".

Changing the Wi-Fi network password, setting up Internet access, managing a VPN connection and much more can be found in the router settings. You may need access to them at any time. Consider what to do if you can’t enter the router settings.

What to do first

If the router settings do not open, perform simple manipulations:

  • go to the settings from another browser, because your browser is faulty or uses a proxy server that prevents you from accessing the specified address;
  • by unplugging the power supply from the outlet for 15 seconds or more, so that all static electricity comes out of the router;
  • restart your computer;
  • open the router settings from another device: phone or tablet.

How to make sure you are entering the correct address

There are instructions on the Internet that you can access the router by entering the address 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. In today's world, only 30% of routers use these IPs for the settings page.

To find out the address of your router settings, turn the device over and read the information. It may differ depending on the manufacturer. Access to the parameters is given by addresses:

How to check on a computer if a connection is established with a router

Access to the settings may be closed due to lack of connection to the router. There may be problems with the connection via the cable (bad connection at the connector with the socket, pinched or damaged wire) or no Wi-Fi connection. Checking this is very simple: just pay attention to the network indicator, which is located in the lower right corner. The icon may indicate that:

The last example means that you need to look for a problem at the hardware level.

What to do if there is no connection

If there is no connection to the router, you need to restore it and make sure everything is done correctly. To configure the router, it is better to use an Ethernet cable connection. It must be remembered that routers often have 4 or more ports for distributing the network and one for receiving. This nest is different in color from others.

The connecting cable must be inserted into the correct socket on the router.

The cord and connectors must be intact and not squashed, and the connection of the cable to the port must be accompanied by a characteristic click, indicating that the RJ-45 has fallen into place.

In addition, you need to check the power of the router. When connected to the network, the indicators of the device should light up.

Checking the settings for obtaining an IP address

Router settings may not be available due to non-standard IP address settings on the PC. To correct the situation, you must set automatic so that the computer can determine its network on its own:

  1. Press the key combination Win + R, in the window that appears, enter the control command and run it with the “OK” button.

Press the key combination Win + R, in the window that appears, enter the control command and run it with the “OK” button

  2. Find and open the link "View network status and tasks".
  3. We call the "Network Status" window through the link opposite the connection with the router and open "Properties".

Open the network status window, and in it click "Properties"

  4. In the dialog box, select the TCP / IPv4 element and click "Properties" again. In the protocol window, we make all settings automatic and save the changes through the “OK” button.

In the properties of the TCP / IPv4 protocol, set the automatic IP settings and save the changes

  5. Trying to open the router settings.

Is the proxy server enabled in the browser?

If a proxy server or a similar setting is enabled in the browser or system, this may cause problems when trying to open the router settings.

The proxy group also includes VPN services, browser extensions, and Turbo modes.

The solution to the problem is quite simple: just disable all of the above components. To be sure, you also need to check your computer for viruses. Malicious programs can wreak havoc on system files. This can result in failure of network systems.

What to do if the browser redirects to the search engine

When you try to enter the router settings using the IP address, instead of a page with parameters, a search one opens. This happens because of the specifics of the perception of information by observers. Any deviation from the protocol is considered a search request.

When writing the router address incorrectly, the browser sends a request to the search engine

To correct the situation, you need to enter the correct address. At the beginning of the line, specify http://, otherwise the program will only recognize numbers. Next, write the address without commas and letters instead of numbers. The correct one is http://192.168.1.1. Replacing any character in the string will collapse the entire address.

What to do if after entering the settings there is an error "Incorrect username or password"

When trying to authenticate, most make the mistake of entering the default admin values in both fields. On some devices, these values are entered by default, but this is not a constant phenomenon. Some manufacturers set excellent passwords, for example, "1234", while others prescribe a separate code for each device.

To find out how to get around the "Incorrect login or password" error, refer to the sticker on the bottom of the router. We carefully read the lines that are reserved for the login and password, and have the words admin, user, key, password and so on in their names.

On the label of the router are the username and password for the device settings

If the entered values from the packaging also did not fix the situation, the problem is that the default value was replaced with another one. In this case, you need to reset the router settings to factory settings. To do this, use the Reset button on the router case.

The reset is very simple: you need to press and hold the button for 10 seconds (sometimes the settings are restored immediately, depending on the manufacturer). After we reboot the device and, using the default data, we enter the router settings.

Using the Reset button, reset the router settings to factory settings

Correcting errors with entering the router settings is very simple. You just need to diagnose the cause and use one of the instructions above to eliminate it.

On computer forums, a lot of attention is paid to fine-tuning the router, which can significantly increase its speed and connection stability. However, many users are faced with a problem of a different order - they simply cannot go into their router settings in order to select the optimal parameters. There is no need to panic and go to the store for a new device, since everyone can solve such a problem. If the computer does not enter the standard menu of the router's web client, you need to try changing the connection settings or pay attention to other nuances.

We are looking for a way out if there is no access to the router settings.

By typing the web client address 192.168.1.1 in your favorite browser, you may find that the router does not respond to your command. To enter the web client menu, first take the instructions and read what address is set for the router by the manufacturer. Many electronics developers prefer to set the combination 192.168.0.1, which allows you to release the above address for other network equipment. Also, information about the base address may be contained on the bottom of the instrument case.

Try changing your web browser - the best option is the standard Internet Explorer application, which uses direct connections without redirection. However, it may also display an error when trying to enter 192.168.1.1. You can increase the chances of a successful connection by using the RJ-45 standard cable that comes with your router. Be careful - it must be connected to the LAN port on the router, and not the WAN connector, which is most often highlighted in blue. To get unlimited access to the 192.168.0.1 menu, be sure to disable the wireless adapter you are using on your computer using the special function button or the network connections menu.

Fine tuning

If the computer does not enter the standard web client menu, it is quite possible that the connection error with 192.168.1.1 is caused by an address conflict on the network. First of all, you will need to enter the control panel of the operating system and find the “Internet Properties” item there, which can also be called “Internet Options”. Then you need to open the "Connection" tab and at the bottom find the button that is responsible for the local network settings. In the dialog box that opens after clicking it, disable the use of proxies in regular local networks and VPNs.

However, it is not always possible to establish a connection with 192.168.0.1. You need to open the properties of the network adapter you are using - you can enter this menu in three main ways:

  • Through the "Network Control Center";
  • Through the control panel - the "Network Connections" tool;
  • Enter control netconnections on the command line.

Since the router has a web client address of 192.168.1.1 or an alternative 192.168.0.1, for the network to work correctly, an electronic computer must have a similar IP that differs only in the last digit. By right-clicking on the icon of the adapter you need, open its properties, in the dialog box that appears, select the IPv4 connection protocol and click on the "Properties" button again.

The general protocol parameters may contain an answer why the computer does not enter the standard menu of the router's web client. The IP may be different from what the router uses - to continue working you will need to change it using the same beginning as in 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. The number at the end must be between 2 and 254 so as not to create an address conflict within the local network. Of course, the best option would be to set the address automatically based on the needs of the computer, but this feature is not supported by every network. Do not forget to also set the address of the gateway and DNS server on this tab - in these fields you will need to enter the numbers 192.168.0.1 or an alternative combination of 192.168.1.1, depending on the standard settings of the router.

Also, the computer sometimes does not enter the menu you need as a result of limiting the transmitted traffic within the created local network. It may be prevented from opening menu 192.168.1.1 by the antivirus you installed, which sets too serious control over user actions - you should simply disable it while working with the device settings. Access to the specified address or 192.168.0.1 is often blocked by the standard operating system firewall - it can also be disabled through the operating system control panel. After completing the above steps, you should be able to enter the settings of the router you are using, however, in certain situations, all user actions turn out to be ineffective.

Extreme measures

If the computer still does not enter the web client of the device, it is advisable to perform a complete reboot - for this, a small Reset button is used, which can be located at the back or at the bottom of the router case. It must be pressed with a long thin object (for example, a paper clip) and held for approximately 10-20 seconds, depending on the model of the wireless device. After a complete data reset, you will be able to access all advanced device settings at the standard menu address 192.168.0.1, as well as an alternative combination of 192.168.1.1 - this is determined by the device model.

This method will also be effective if you have irretrievably lost the data for accessing the web client or it has been changed by another person who has gained unauthorized access to the router's settings menu. After the reboot, it is imperative to use the standard login and the preset password that is set by the hardware builder. Most often, you need to enter the word “admin” on both lines, but there are some exceptions. To accurately determine the correct login information for the standard web client, review the instructions for the device. Be careful, because after the reboot, all settings will have to be set again.

If, after resetting the router, the computer does not enter the settings menu at the menu address 192.168.0.1 or an alternative IP, try again using a different laptop or modern tablet. It is possible that the inability to access 192.168.1.1 is caused by incorrect network card settings or damage. In the first case, you should try to restore the drivers or use the proprietary distribution of the operating system from the developer of the smart machine. In the second case, you will have to change the wireless module.

The source of your problems may also be a malfunction of the router itself - usually the problem of the inability to access 192.168.1.1 is solved by simply flashing the wireless device. Remember that you can only enter the web client menu without interference if you download the software from a trusted source - it is best to use the global network resource or the file server of the router manufacturer itself. Also, the router does not enter the standard settings menu using the 192.168.0.1 combination and if the components are completely broken. Such a device is always easier and cheaper to change than to repair. When choosing a new device, be guided by the characteristics of its power and antenna gain, as well as the ability to work with certain types of networks.

If the device is damaged, but you need to create a wireless network for a short time, you can use the corresponding function of the adapter in the computer. To do this, you should install the appropriate software - Virtual Router Manager is a good option. After it is launched and properly configured, the electronic computer will independently distribute traffic through the wireless network, although the possibilities of such a connection will be limited. For example, it will definitely not work to achieve high speed and long range of the network. In addition, the device will not be able to connect to other wireless networks during this time.

Solution of problems

Statistics provided by service centers show that in 90% of cases the problem with the inability to access the web client can be solved by simply reconfiguring the router or computer. The user should pay special attention to the network settings - most often the cause of the malfunction is an address conflict in the computer environment. Also, the impossibility of access is often due to traffic restriction by an antivirus or a standard firewall, so it is advisable to disable such protective applications before working with wireless network settings. However, there are also troubles associated with the failure of the router software - the device will need to be rebooted or re-flashed. Finally, the root of the problem should be looked for in the malfunction of the device itself or the network adapter of the computer - unfortunately, if they break down, you will have to purchase new equipment.

Using a router (in Russian - a router), the user distributes network connection data packets. This forms a Wi-Fi zone, making the owner's Internet traffic available to all devices that connect to it.

Sometimes users want to change the device settings to change the network password, username, or track devices that connect to the Wi-Fi zone.

For this you need get into the control panel of the router, the path to which is the IP address assigned to it. The most common options are combinations of 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1, as well as 192.168.100.1.

In the article, we will tell you what to do if you cannot enter the settings menu by typing the IP address of the router in the browser. The screen displays "Page not available", "Unable to display ..." and similar errors. Pay attention to the standard terms described in the field of creating a network connection and our instructions for solving problems with both wired and wireless connections and accessing the 192.168.0.1 address settings.

Features of the router and Wi-Fi network

The IP address depends on the router model and its manufacturer (for example, for an Apple model, the address starts with the number 10). It can also be changed by the user himself by accessing the settings menu.

Not all devices can access the Internet directly using Wifi. The router, in addition to the connector for the ISP cable, has other connectors.

The LAN and its cables serve as a wired connection to devices that cannot recognize a Wi-fi network. They are connected from the router to the end device. In addition to using LAN cables, the user can choose to purchase a wi-fi adapter for the device.

Does not go to 192.168.0.1 - connection methods

Before looking for reasons, you must make sure that the settings menu does not work for you.

Knowing the IP address of the device, open the browser (if you tried on one, open another) and on any tab in the address, without a dot at the end, enter the combination and confirm. If your Wi-Fi has a password, the panel that opens will already be a positive sign.

Open "Explorer" (relevant for Windows) by right-clicking (RMB) on the "Start" button or by pressing Win + E and go to the "Network" category. This method works exactly for LAN cable connection methods.

When clicked, the model of the router connected to you will be displayed. If it is not there, the obvious conclusion is that the computer did not establish a connection through it. Right-click on the virtual model of the router and go to "View Device Web Page". It should display the settings menu.

Clarification of the IP address

Why might you not find the router device in the Network category? The last method may not be relevant for devices connected to the Internet through a Wi-Fi zone. Even if your system (computer or laptop) and its motherboard do not have a built-in Wi-FI recognition receiver, check the USB inputs. They may have a Wi-Fi adapter. A device that demodulates Wi-Fi radio waves for such devices, allowing the system to receive network information.

In this case, the recorded IP address may simply not match the actual one. You can check this in the following ways:

  • Check on the label of the router,
  • Checking in the connection panel information about the router,
  • Using the command line.

You can also study the reference information on models and their manufacturers, but this will not save you from the situation if you changed the IP address manually.

The sticker, which displays the initial login and password with the IP address of the connection to the router, is located on the rear panel of the device (most often, the login and password are the use of the word admin).

You can check this by opening the Control Panel, then "Network and Internet", go to the "Network and Sharing Center". Here, in the View Active Networks mini-tab, you'll find the Access Type, HomeGroup, and Connection categories. You are interested in "Connection", go to it. A connection status window will open, click on "Details" and find the IP by "Default Gateway".

You can find the IP address using the command line. Use the key combination Win + R, enter cmd, a window will open, then enter ipconfig / all. Look for the main network connection, your target is "Default Gateway".

Other reasons for the inaccessibility of the settings panel

What to do if you specified your IP, but you still unable to access 192.168.0.1? To determine other causes, pay attention to the network connection status in the system tray. The ascending ladder icon indicates the type of Wi-Fi wireless connection, the cord icon to the monitor indicates a LAN connection.

In the tray notification "No connections available". In that case, check:

  • The presence of drivers on the network card / wi-fi adapter. Go to the "Device Manager" through the search in the "Control Panel". Find the module of your network card or wi-fi adapter in the "Network adapters" category. If the driver is installed, you will not see an exclamation point to the right of the name.
  • LAN cable work. The network connection cable may be damaged, or the jack it is plugged into may be damaged. You can change the connectors on both the router and the computer.
  • Network status in the tray "Identification" and "Unidentified network":
  • Settings: no automatic detection of IP and DNS,

The dhcp service determines third-party IP addresses (site addresses) without user assistance. It must have a DNS server running. Similar to the way to determine the IP through the system control panel, by going to "Connection", come in in "Properties". In the Internet Protocol version 4 component, double-click on the component and in the new window that opens, make sure that the auto-detect checkboxes are active.

Conclusion

All of the above methods often guarantee a solution to any problems related to the lack of access to 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1 addresses. But if all of a sudden you still can’t enter the router settings, contact our computer service, we will definitely help!

In general, this address is used to enter the settings on most routers and modems. There are actually quite a few reasons why the browser does not enter the settings located at this address, in this article I want to consider the main ones.

And so, let's go...

First check the address, did you copy it correctly? (highlighted in blue below)

1) “Incorrect” browser settings

Most often, a problem with the browser occurs if you have enabled turbo mode(this is in Opera or Yandex browser), or a similar function in other programs.

Also check your computer for viruses, sometimes the browser may be infected with a virus (or an add-on, some kind of bar), which will block access to some pages.

2) Turned off the router / modem

Very often, users try to enter the settings of the router (or modem), and the device itself is turned off. Be sure to check that the lights (LEDs) flicker on the case, the device is connected to the network and power.

After that, you can try to reset the router. To do this, find the reset button (usually on the back panel of the device, next to the power input) - and hold it down with a pen or pencil for 30-40 seconds. After that, turn on the device again - the settings will be returned to the default settings and you can easily enter them. (How to enter the router settings

3) Network card settings

A lot of problems happen due to the fact that the network card is not connected or does not work. To find out if the network card is connected (and turned on) - you need to go to the network settings: Control PanelNetwork and InternetNetwork connections

For Windows 7, 8, you can quickly get into the settings if you press the Win + R buttons and enter the ncpa.cpl command (then press Enter).

Next, take a close look at the network connection your computer is connected to. For example, if you have a router and a laptop, then most likely the laptop will be connected via Wi-Fi (wireless connection). Right-click on it and click enable (if the wireless connection will be displayed with a gray icon, not a color one).

By the way, you may not be able to turn on the network connection - because. Your system may be missing drivers. I recommend, in case of problems with the network, in any case, try to update them. To learn how to do this, see this article: "how to update drivers".

Important!

Be sure to check your network card settings. It is possible that your settings address is not 192.168.1.1, but different. To do this, go to the command line (For Windows 7.8 - click on Win + R, and enter the CMD command, then press the Enter key).

At the command prompt, type a simple command: ipconfig and press the Enter key.

After that, you will see a lot of options for your network adapters. Pay attention to the line "main gateway" - this is the address, it is possible that you will not have it 192.168.1.1.

Attention! Please note that the router settings page is different for different models! For example, to configure TRENDnet routers, you need to go to 192.168.10.1, and ZyXEL - 192.168.1.1/ (see the table below).

4) Antiviruses and firewalls

Very often, antiviruses and firewalls (firewalls) built into them can block some Internet connections. In order not to guess, I recommend just temporarily disabling them: usually it is enough to right-click on the antivirus icon in the tray (in the corner, next to the clock) and click on exit.

In addition, the Windows system has a built-in firewall, it can also block access. It is recommended to turn it off for a while.

In Windows 7, 8, its settings are located at: Control PanelSystem and SecurityWindows Firewall.

5) Checking the hosts file
