Unable to connect to WiFi network. Laptop won't connect to mobile hotspot

Hello! I haven't written anything for a long time, but yesterday I saw a comment with a very useful tips, which can be applied when one of your devices stops connecting to the wireless network. In the title, I wrote “stopped connecting”, which means that earlier, the same laptop or tablet connected to the network and everything worked fine.

It often happens that they simply turned off Wi-Fi on the device, or turned off the device itself, turn it on, but it no longer connects to the Internet. And in the comments they write: “Why?!”. Why do other gadgets continue to work through this network, and my phone does not even want to connect to it.

The question, of course, is very complicated, since anything can happen, and it is almost impossible to advise some kind of universal solution. But, there are a few tips, by doing which, perhaps, the connection problem will be solved.

What do I enter when I write that the device is not connecting to the wireless network? At different devices different problems may arise. For example, on a laptop, an error may occur, or there may be a permanent connection. On mobile devices, tablets, phones, TV boxes that run on Android may arise, or there will simply be a status. On TVs, there may be a connection error, each manufacturer has different ones there.

Any error may appear. The main problem is that there is no network connection.

The tips that you will find below may help you, but on the condition that:

  • Everything was connected before.
  • Other devices on your network continue to work.
  • You have not changed anything in the settings of the router, or the device that you are connecting.

Solve the problem with connecting to Wi-Fi

Tips are to change the wireless network settings. Well, and one more thing 🙂

Tip #1

Network with a new name, your device will be considered new. And, if there was any conflict with the connection to old network then everything should be resolved.

Tip #3

Change your wireless network password. There is also a separate one on how to do this.

After these steps, your phone, or whatever you are having problems with, should see your network with a new name and password, and successfully connect to it.

Also, other devices that were connected to the network will have to be reconnected. Since the name and password will be different.

Why does the phone not connect to Wi-Fi, although it recognizes the network? There are several types of this error:

  • There is an endless and fruitless attempt to get the IP address of the router;
  • The smartphone cannot connect to the network, but the hotspot remains;
  • The phone does not find the network at all wifi;
  • The connection is successful, but there is no Internet connection.

Consider all the ways to solve a problem with a router. All kinds of errors can be solved with the below instructions. Follow all the instructions in order to resolve the error as quickly as possible.

Health check and problem analysis

In more than 60% of cases, the user is unable to connect to wifi due to short-term network outages. Before you learn how to connect a device to a router to troubleshoot a problem, complete all of the following steps:

  • Reload smartphone governed by Android OS and your router. Wifi itself must be left unplugged for several minutes;
  • After restarting your Android device, go to wifi settings and delete the previously saved access point;

  • Now search again (the phone should be as close as possible to the router during the search).

If you failed to establish a connection using this method, proceed to the next instruction.

It is also necessary to check the password, since most users may simply enter it incorrectly. Because of this, the connection does not occur and writes "Saved". To check the entered password, go to wifi settings. Then go to view the options for the desired access point. In the password (or keyword) field, click on the "Show password" checkbox and make sure it matches the one keyword, which is specified in the router settings.

An easy way to set up the Internet. Learn how to do it

How to see the password in the router settings? To do this, enter the configuration window and go to the "Wireless Security" tab. The password is the value in the PSK Password field. You can also change this value. After changing your password, save your settings and try logging in from your phone again.

Change the name of the access point

If all your devices, except those running on the Android OS, connect to the router, you need to rename the access point. Some Android smartphones and tablets have one common bug - they are unable to recognize the network if its name is in Cyrillic or the network name contains special characters.

Read about the benefits of using the Internet

Follow the instructions to change the title:

  • Go to the router settings;
  • Go to the main tab and in the SSD Name field change the name of the access point. Remember, it must not contain additional characters and Cyrillic letters. Use only Latin and numbers;
  • Save your settings and try detecting the network again.

Changing the value of the Beacon interval option

Almost all modern router models have a number of advanced connection features. You can fix the network connection problem by changing the Beacon interval setting. What is this interval for? Its main purpose is to set the period of time after which telephone will try to receive a special packet from the router that contains information about the network.

As a rule, on all routers this value is equal to one second (or 100 ms). You can change this parameter yourself to 45 or 70. This value is suitable for most Android smartphones.

Follow instructions:

  1. Go to your router settings;
  2. Click the "Advanced Wireless Settings" tab. Another name is "Advanced Wireless";
  3. In the Bacon Period field, enter the required value and save the settings;
  4. Reboot the router;
  5. Try to connect to the internet.

Selecting a connection mode

The cause of the problem may be the incompatibility of the communication standard of your smartphone and router. To do this, you need to change the connection mode in the router settings.

How to connect a gadget to a computer?

Follow the directions:

  • Go to your router settings and enable the advanced wireless network settings tab;
  • Find the Mode field and change its value one by one. After each change in the standard, save the settings and try to connect to the Internet from your smartphone.

Channel changes in router settings

If the connection to the Internet suddenly disappeared (you did not install any access point add-ons before), it is possible that the previously used channel is no longer suitable for your network and needs to be replaced.

To do this, follow the instructions below.:

Notice! This method solution is only suitable if absolutely all devices are connected to the router, but there is no Internet connection.

  • Go to the settings of your router through a computer using any browser;
  • Find the tab with the wireless network settings;
  • Then in the "Channel" tab, change the value from "Auto" to any other. Save your settings and reboot your router. Now connect to the Internet again. Try a different channel if necessary.

Using third-party utilities to reorganize the connection

With the help of some utilities, you can learn how to connect your phone to the router without errors. Also, such applications help to eliminate the error by scanning the entire system of a smartphone or tablet. Consider a few useful programs:

  • WiFi Fixer - free utility for diagnosing and quickly resolving issues related to connecting to the router. You can download and install the program on your device from official page in the google store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.wahtod.wififixer.

Immediately after launch, the utility resets all wifi network connection settings and sets the options that are most suitable for your device. All work happens automatically, so the user does not need to deal with the functionality. Also, the utility can be run to work in background, so she can constantly monitor the connection to the router.

Advice! To ensure an uninterrupted connection to the network, first go to the Wi-Fi Fixer application and connect to the found access point from it.

  • FXR WiFi fix and rescue- Next setup program correct connection. It is the most popular application in the Google store in the section of utilities for connection diagnostics. The program is compatible with all versions of Android OS. If you do not know why the connection is not working and do not want to deal with the problem yourself, use this application. You can download it from the following link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brilliapps.wifiandmorefixer&hl=ru

To start the diagnostic and reorganization process, click on the "Fix My Wi-Fi" button. Then select the required access point, enter the correct password and wait for the automatic fix procedure to complete.

A scary moment when your computer connects to Wi-Fi, but the Internet does not work. Unfortunately, there is no single solution to this problem, as the error may be related to the operating system settings or the router.

We have compiled step by step guide to help you fix the issue.

Where to look?

If you are facing the “no internet access” issue, then you need to look at:

  • router
  • The device with the problem

If the Internet does not work on all devices connected to WiFi networks, then there is most likely a problem with your router/modem. You can also look at the Ethernet cable to make sure it's not broken or twisted.

If the Internet does not work only on the computer, while other devices connect perfectly to wireless wifi network, then the problem is with the Wi-Fi adapter of the computer or again with the router, which cannot connect to the computer.

To fix the "no internet access" problem, you can follow the following nine steps. So, let's begin.

1. Restart your computer and router

Yes, I know it sounds silly, but most problems are solved with a simple reboot.

A good reboot is the solution to many software and network connectivity issues. Turn off your router (router) and wait 30 seconds before turning it back on. In addition, you should restart your computer to make sure it also works properly. When all devices have rebooted, try connecting again.

2. Check the signal indicators on the router

It is possible that the problem is with your Internet connection and not with your computer. To confirm, you need to check the indicator on the router and make sure it is lit.

Ideally, the lights on the router should be green and the Wi-FI light should be flashing. If you're unsure about this, contact your ISP's customer support.

3. Use the built-in troubleshooter

If the ISP claims that the Internet is working properly, then the problem is most likely with the WiFi adapter on your device. This can be easily fixed with the built-in troubleshooter that is available by default on Windows.

The built-in network troubleshooter on Windows allows you to solve or at least report most network problems. Click right click mouse over the network icon on the taskbar and select " Troubleshooting". Windows will start looking for the problem and how to fix it. If the system cannot fix them, it will let you know what the problem is. After that, you can find a solution on the Internet, or ask in the comments below, we will try to help you.

4. Flush DNS

Sometimes an error in the DNS cache can lead to problems accessing websites and you may think that the internet is down. In this case, you need to flush DNS.

Click on the menu " Start' and enter ' cmd". Next open command line on behalf of the administrator.

A command prompt window will open where you should type " ipconfig/flushdns” and press the enter key ( Enter). This command will clear the DNS cache.

5. Change the wireless mode on your router

If your computer has access to the Internet when you connect the Ethernet cable directly while using WiFi Internet does not work, then the problem may be in the wireless mode.

Routers support multiple wireless modes. For example, you might see characters like 802.11b or 802.11b/g or 802.11b/g/n etc. So, b, g, n and ac are different standards wireless communication. B is the oldest WiFi standard that covers a smaller area and provides slower data transfer rates, while AC is the latest WiFi standard with wider coverage and 1Gbps network speed.

Generally, most people use wireless mode 802.11b/g/n/. But sometimes older devices (especially older smartphones) do not work with this mode, so they connect to Wi-Fi, but there is no Internet.

One way to fix this problem is to enter the control panel of the router through a computer, then find the section Wireless mode. It's usually in the settings. wireless network (Wireless), where you set the name and password for the Wi-FI network. Next to the wireless mode, you will see a dropdown menu, click on it, select 802.11b and save your changes. Now restart Wi-Fi on the devices that were unable to connect to the Internet and check if the issue has been resolved. If the internet is still not working, try 802.11g wireless mode. If you are still unlucky, then look further for a solution to your problem.

6. Automatically obtain IP and DNS

If your smartphone or computer connects to another Wi-Fi network but does not work with your wireless network, there is a possibility of a DNS or IP address conflict. You can check this by pinging your router via cmd prompt. If you're getting a time out response, then it's most likely an IP address conflict.

Ideally, you should set network settings to automatically obtain an IP address and DNS provided by your ISP. This ensures the least amount of conflicts. However, sometimes assigning a static IP address or changing the DNS server can help resolve Internet access issues. Conversely, if you are using a static IP address, then it makes sense to get an IP address automatically. In short, try changing the settings and see if you can fix the problem with accessing the Internet.

To obtain an IP address automatically in Windows, press the keys Windows+R and type " ncpa.cpl in the Run dialog box that opens. When you click " OK”, all your network connections will open. Right click on your network and select " Properties» in the context menu.

Now select " IPversion 4", and press " Properties under her. In the next dialog box, select an option: " Obtain an IP address automatically" And " Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically". Restart your computer and check your Internet access.

7. Problems with the network driver

Sometimes the problem with accessing the Internet lies in the old network driver. To update the network driver on your computer, press the keys Window+R and type " devmgmt.msc". You will open the window " device Manager».

In the menu on the left, expand the " Network adapters and right click on your network. Now select the option " Update drivers", and you will get two options for updating the driver: manually and automatically (online).

Try connecting your computer to your router with an Ethernet cable to access the Internet. If the connection is established, click " Automatic search updated drivers”, and Windows will automatically find and install the correct driver.

In case you are unable to connect to the Internet via an Ethernet cable, you will have to manually download latest driver from the manufacturer's website from another device, and then transfer it to a computer without access to the Internet. Then select the option " Search for drivers on your computer" to manually install the latest drivers.

8. Reset the router to factory settings

This is a rather tough option, but in most cases it solves all router-related problems. You can reset your router to factory settings. This allows you to fix the problem with accessing the Internet. It also means that you have to reinstall basic settings, password, and other network settings.

You can reset the router to factory settings by pressing the reset button on the router itself. Usually the reset button is hidden inside a tiny hole, so you will need a ballpoint pen or a toothpick. Press the button and hold it for 5-15 seconds until all indicators start flashing.

9. Call your ISP

If none of the methods solved your problem with accessing the Internet, then you should let your ISP. They will consult over the phone, and if necessary, they will send the master to the house.

Summarizing

As I said, there is no single way solve the problem with Internet access. The above tips should help you fix most software related issues. However, if the problem with accessing the Internet is related to the hardware of the computer - for example, a network card or router is broken - then you will have to turn to experienced specialists.

Very often we encounter such a problem as the lack of access to Wi-Fi. This problem mainly occurs in the operating room. Windows system. What is the reason, and what will be the solution to the problem? This is what we are now trying to find out.

So, there are several reasons why a laptop cannot connect to Wi-Fi. Problems with the settings of the laptop itself, outdated drivers. Let's take a closer look at these causes and find ways to fix the problem.

1. The easiest way
The problem is the lack of a connected wireless adapter on the laptop itself. In each laptop model, manufacturers install a button on or off the Wi-Fi adapter on the F keys. Look at your keyboard and look for the Wi-Fi symbol, usually located at F5, F10 or F12.

Next, we find the Fn function button and simultaneously press Fn and F12 several times (you press the key where the Wi-Fi icon is drawn), see what happens, if there are any changes. Sometimes it happens that Fn is not active, because there are no drivers installed, if the laptop does not react when you press F12 and Fn, then check the Fn key by turning up or down the volume.

In addition to the adapter, you need to check in the network connection settings whether the network card is connected. Press Win+R at the same time. In the window that opens, there is a line "Open", we hammer into it: ncpa.cpl and click OK.

A window opens, there we select wireless connection. If it says "Disabled", then right-click (RMB) click on the Wireless connection and in the window that opens, click "Enable". We are waiting for 2-3 minutes or just.

Did not help? So we do the following:
Press Win+R. The Run window opens, in the "Open" line we drive in the command devmgmt.msc and OK.

The Device Manager window opens. In the list we find the name of our router (there should be the word Wireless or Wi-Fi), click on the name of the PCM router, and see if there is an “Enable” command there. If we see this command in the drop-down window, then the network card is not enabled, so you need to click on it and enable it. Everything, then check if Wi-Fi is connected.

2. The second reason for no connection is that the drivers are not installed.
Basically, this problem occurs when Windows is suspended on a laptop.
If a non-professional installed the system, then he could not, which led to Wi-Fi being turned off.

To check this, you need to do a few simple manipulations:
Through Win + R, go to the "Run" window, give the command devmgmt.msc, select the name of your router from the list. If there are no drivers, then instead of the name of the router, the standard "Ethernet - controller" will be indicated.

So, in the list, instead of the name of the router, we found "Ethernet - controller". There are two ways to solve the problem:
After installing Windows, outdated network card drivers were used. We do the following: we raise the computer, at the bottom we read its full name and model number indicated on the label.

Next, open the browser, find the official website and, in the Support Department, by model number, download the necessary driver package for Wi-Fi. After downloading, install the driver, and send the laptop to reboot. Sometimes it is not necessary to reinstall the drivers, just updating is enough.

True, for this you also need to download the driver from the official site, but you do not need to install it. In the Device Manager, right-click on the name of the adapter and then select the "Update driver" command. Then restart the laptop and check if Wi-Fi is connected.

3. Another way to troubleshoot connection issues.
Click start, then control panel and open the network and sharing center. We find Wireless network connection, left-click (LMB) on the name, a window appears: "Status".

We click on "Properties", in the newly opened window a list appears in which we find the item: IP version 4 (TCP / IPv4) double-click on it with LMB, the window opens again with DNS settings and IP address settings.

Here, be sure to check the box next to the box: "Use the following IP address." We specify the parameters exactly as in the example, click OK, and check.

4. Disabled WLAN services.
If all of the above methods did not help, the last thing left is to check the WLAN autoconfiguration service. Of course, a shutdown occurs extremely rarely, but everything happens sometime, and checking will not hurt. So, we press the Win + R combination already familiar to us, drive in the services.msc command and click OK.

In the window that appears, we find: “WLAN Autoconfiguration Services”, right-click on it, in the drop-down window, execute the “Start” command.

Recently, there have been many questions on the Internet regarding problems setting up an access point in Windows 10. Namely, when devices (phone, tablet or other laptop) cannot connect to a wi-fi access point (distribution) running on a laptop or computer wi-fi router. In this case, users note that there is a continuous obtaining of an IP address or authentication. And in all cases it is written that it is impossible to connect to this Wi-Fi network. At the same time, many users note that this began to happen after the next update. Windows systems and before that everything was working fine.

An interesting point: difficulties with connecting devices arise regardless of the distribution setting option: with.

So, if you have Windows 10 and distribute wireless connection Wi-Fi from a laptop, but the devices connected to it cannot connect to this access point (an endless stage of obtaining an IP address or difficulty with authentication), then this article is what you need. Before writing this guide, I tried several options, including running a mobile hotspot. As a result, all my devices connected without problems and never gave an error.

Solving problems with connecting to distribution via Wi-Fi from a laptop

You have launched a hotspot on a laptop running Windows 10, but you cannot connect a tablet, smartphone, or other laptop to this hotspot. The device gives an error getting an IP address" or " authentication“. Sometimes the system will display “ unable to connect to wireless network“. If one of the above cases occurs, then I recommend that you take the following measures:

  • 1 . First of all, I advise you to disable the installed on your laptop antivirus. I must say right away: it is unlikely that this is the case, but still I recommend starting with this simple action. It is enough just to disable the firewall built into the antivirus program. Also, it would not be superfluous to disable the firewall of the Windows 10 system. Or maybe you have some other programs or applications installed that can block devices from connecting to the access point?
  • 2 . Check if yours is open general access to the network provided for distribution. You can do this by going to properties” network providing Internet access for the network configured for distribution.

This is an important point in setting up an access point! Here you may encounter various problems which will be discussed in the article. If you find that Internet Sharing is not open, then in “ properties” of this connection will be indicated: “ IPv4 connection" or " without network access” (“without Internet access”). Like this:

Attention! Be sure to check your sharing options! Make sure your connection is labeled “ public network" or simply " publicly available” (see picture).

After selection restart laptop and check your sharing settings again. Now try to connect to the access point:

If automatic address acquisition is set, and there is no connection to the access point, then vice versa register IP and DNS address manually. The IP address must differ from the modem address by the last digit, in our case 192.168.0.(2….). The subnet mask will appear automatically after clicking on the input field. Meaning DNS can be used from the Google standard (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). The screenshot below shows how to do this:

  • 4 . You can try the following: remove the existing network connection and re-create it. This can only be done with a high speed PPPoE connection. After creating a connection in the “properties”, you need to open network sharing. In this case, you do not need to manually register any addresses yourself!
  • 5 . Check the following services:

– WLAN autoconfiguration service ;
– Internet Connection Sharing (ICS);
– Routing.

These services should run by default, they start automatically. It rarely happens that for some reason their work is interrupted. You can check this by going to control Panel", Further " system and safety“, “administration“ and then to “ services” (you can find it using windows search). If any of the services is disabled, then you need to enable it.

  • 6 . If none of the above helps to solve the access problem, then you need to reset the TCP / IP protocol and DNS. It doesn't always help, but it's definitely worth a try. To do this, run command line on behalf of the administrator by right-clicking on “ start” and execute two commands in turn - inserting into the line and pressing enter:

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

After completion it is necessary restart laptop, and after loading the system, start the distribution of Wi-Fi again, without forgetting to open the general access.

  • 7 . There is another original solution that can be applied after all attempts and solutions - a simple reinstallation of the operating system. After reinstalling Windows 10, in almost all cases, problems with the access point disappear, including with access through a mobile hotspot. Therefore, if reinstalling Windows 10 is not difficult for you, then it is worth a try.

Every user faces this problem everywhere. The laptop just doesn't want to connect to wifi. Sometimes it helps or a router, but sometimes these actions remain useless. Moreover, the laptop sees and recognizes the network, but does not want to connect. At the same moment, other devices work fine with the network. Well, let's try to figure out what's what, and how to resolve the dilemma.

Of all the many possible reasons, we single out two broad categories. The first includes problems with the computer, and the second - with the router. Therefore, we will consider all further methods of influence based on this gradation.

Let's determine who is still to blame: a laptop or a router? If you immediately start setting up a particular system, you can lose a lot of time, and you won’t achieve results. Therefore, it is very important to determine which device cannot transmit a signal: your technical machine or a small receiver with an antenna. And it's very easy to find out. Try connecting another device to Wi-Fi. If the signal is received, then the router is working. Carry out similar actions with a computer, simply by connecting it to another wireless network, for example, a neighbor's one (nothing if you knock on the door opposite and ask for a password). Usually, one of the two components will accurately detect the problem.

Most often, a message like: "could not connect to ..." occurs on Windows 7. It is difficult to understand why this is explained, but the fact remains.

Checking drivers

At the moment when there is no Internet connection, the following icon is displayed on the panel:

Let's start by checking the health of the drivers. You can see this in the device manager, which is called from the properties of "My Computer":

In the proposed list, find Network adapters and see which driver is suitable for your computer. Open its properties. If the condition is satisfactory, it will be written: the device is working normally.

If everything is exactly the same as shown in the figure, then everything is fine with the drivers. If at least one item does not match, then install them.

Checking the connection

A special small button is responsible for turning on Wi-Fi on a laptop. It can be located on the side or bottom of the case. It also regulates the state of Bluetooth. If there is none, then the keyboard shortcut highlighted in the screenshot will do:

At the final moment of connecting, Windows likes to issue this message:

Try to take advantage of the opportunity presented and click "Troubleshoot". There are cases in history when this helped. It's hard to say what the problem is given error. They are hidden much deeper than an ordinary user can get. Therefore, there is only one solution: first reboot the router, and then the laptop. This is the most reliable method that helps in 96% of cases.

Often after the long-awaited purchase of a brand new laptop, connecting a router for WiFi distribution or simply full reinstallation Total software device, the computer for some unknown reason cannot connect to the Wi-Fi network. Every second person finds himself in a situation where the laptop does not connect to the Internet via WiFi, and this, to put it mildly, causes dissatisfaction. The laptop simply refuses to see all kinds of Internet networks, and the special icon itself, which is located on the bottom notification bar of the device, instead of the usual white stripes, shows an exclamation mark (connection is limited) or even worse - a red cross (a personal computer does not see networks at all).

Why won't WiFi connect on my laptop?

The reasons for this behavior of your laptop are incredibly many. In most cases, the problem lies in the fact that the special WiFi module cannot be turned on. In this case, the laptop will work and detect all networks, but during the connection it will write that the operating system, unfortunately, could not connect to this network. How to solve the problem if the laptop sees WiFi, but does not connect? The first step is to make sure that all the necessary drivers are installed on the so-called network adapter.

Oddly enough, most often this happens with laptops running on the Windows 7 operating system. As noted earlier, there are a lot of reasons why your laptop cannot connect to a wireless network. Since there are so many reasons, it means that there are also a lot of ways to still force a personal computer to connect to the Internet. Is your laptop not connecting to WiFi? Windows may not have anything to do with it!

The laptop is not always guilty!

The problem can be not only in the PC, but also, as practice shows, in the router itself (in other words, the network access point). If the laptop does not connect to the Internet, then first of all you should determine what the problem is: in the PC or in the router. How to do it? There are several ways to confirm or deny the fact that the problem is related to the router, the easiest of which is the help of a neighbor. Just visit your neighbor. Ask for a network password to check your laptop. If he can connect, then everything is fine with him. in perfect order, and the problem is hidden in the router. If the laptop does not connect to WiFi, it writes the same thing as at home, then the problem is in the laptop.

Most Likely Difficulties

The most common problems with connecting a laptop or netbook to a wireless network are as follows.

  • WiFi does not turn on personal computer. This is one of those problems that is the easiest to solve, so if you find yourself in just such a situation, do not worry - everything will work out!
  • The device does not detect the network of your personal router, although it sees neighbors and others. This problem is not solved as easily as the first, but still the main thing is what? The main thing is that she decides!
  • The personal computer sees all networks, but cannot connect to any of them, while writing: "Failed to connect." It is possible to solve this problem, because it is the most common. Of course, it’s not a fact that you can fix everything yourself, but it’s worth a try, especially since there will be no complicated actions.
  • The PC quickly connects to WiFi networks, but under no circumstances opens Internet pages in browsers. The problem is also more than common, you can solve it yourself, but, unfortunately, not always. You may need to call a professional to fix it.

Turning on WiFi on a laptop

Unfortunately, not all laptop models have default settings, because of this, the laptop does not connect to the Internet via WiFi. In some situations, you still have to perform various activities, in order for the laptop to connect to a particular wireless network and no longer disturb its owner. This method can really help, but only for those users who have not reinstalled the Windows operating system on their computer. If you have already done this, the tips may not help. But it's worth a try!

Key combination, special switch

There are laptop models in which, in order to enable the ability to connect to a wireless network, you need to press the required key combination on the keyboard. In such PCs, the first mandatory button is Fn, and the second is a special hardware key located somewhere from F1 to F12. Most often, these keys are F2, F6 and F10 - it depends on the manufacturer of the personal computer, as well as its model.

If your laptop is not one of those discussed above, then the network on your laptop model is turned on with a small switch. The switch can be anywhere on your PC - back, bottom, side. It will not be so easy to find it, but then you just need to move the slider from “Off” to the opposite side of “On”. Attention: special keys will not work if you reinstalled the operating system. However, still try - was not. On this, your problems about the fact that WiFi does not connect on a laptop can be solved.

Turning the laptop's wireless capabilities on or off

It is very important to know that after you have turned on the wireless network adapter using special keys, you may also need to turn it on "from the inside", that is, in the laptop operating system itself. There are only 2 options: Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Enable WiFi in Windows 7

If for some reason your personal laptop does not connect to WiFi, you will have to try to fix it yourself. First of all, we go to the PC control panel, select "Network Management" there, then we find the button "Change network adapter settings".

For faster execution, you need to press the Win + R key, and then enter the simple command ncpa.cpl. Pay your attention to network icon, if there is simply none, skip this paragraph. If, nevertheless, there is a wireless network icon there, which is in a disabled state (i.e., it is gray), right-click on the object, in the drop-down menu, select "Enable network" or simply "Enable".

Enable WiFi in Windows 8

Here everything is a little more complicated. If you do not understand why the laptop does not connect to WiFi, it is worth trying this option.

On the right panel, select "Settings", then click on "Change ...", after which you need to find the "Wireless Network" button. Make sure the button is on, if not, turn it on yourself.

Now we perform all the same steps as in the Windows 7 operating system. Simply put, you must make sure that the special wireless connection on your computer is enabled.

Also, regardless of the OS version, you may have to turn to a program that specializes in wireless networks and WiFi connection. Almost all manufacturing companies have their own own programs, which have the word "Wireless" or "WiFi" in their name.

Drivers

Another reason why the laptop does not connect to WiFi, writes: “Connection is limited” or something like that, is the hated PC drivers. Especially often this happens after the personal computer has been reinstalled operating system. You may have been able to reinstall Windows yourself, but you were unable to install the drivers from the official website of the company that created your laptop.

There are also situations when, automatically after installing a new OS, the computer itself installs the necessary drivers, but the PC itself has never done anything correctly. Even if you installed the drivers using some program, you still need to go to the official website of the company and download all the necessary drivers there. Only after installing them you will be able to connect to WiFi networks if that was the case, of course.

router

It was already mentioned above that the problem may not be in the computer, but in the router itself, which emits a signal. There are several ways to check the health of the router:

Connection limited

Such an inscription quite often pops up on the screens of laptops, the owners of which do not understand why WiFi is not connected on the laptop. The solution to such a problem will not take much time, but you still have to do everything clearly according to the instructions, otherwise you can “cheat”.

When a person finds himself in a similar situation, panic sets in: what to do if WiFi is not connected on a laptop, “Limited” is written, and nothing is clear at all? Don't worry, everything can be fixed. Another thing is that not everything is on its own, but this is not such a big problem.

If you select a network in the list of available ones, then enter the password correctly (if you have one, of course), then wait for the connection ... and then a message pops up that everything is connected. But some strange icon appears on the network icon exclamation mark in the yellow triangle. Hover your mouse over this sign and the system will tell you that the connection is limited. No internet resources will work. What to do if the laptop does not connect to WiFi, or rather, it connects, but there is no Internet?

Certain problems with providers. OS reinstallation

The situation is that the problem may not be in the router or even in the laptop. If the connection is limited, one of the options for solving the problem is to call the technical support of the provider. Specialists will try to solve this problem within a day, perhaps a little more, but after that such problems will not arise.

If in technical support They say that it’s not their problem, but yours, so it is. In this case, when the laptop does not connect to the WiFi network (or rather, it connects but does not work), you can repeat some of the tips that are a little higher. However, it will be easiest to call some private specialist who, for 200-300 rubles, will completely reinstall Windows for you on any one you want. He will also install all the necessary drivers for everything to work, well, and if you wish, if you ask, he can install a good antivirus.

Many more find themselves in a situation where nothing is actually broken, but only a small failure has occurred in the router. Don’t worry, you don’t have to reconnect anything, you just need to completely disconnect the router from cables and wires for 5-10 minutes so that it “rests” a little. After that, reconnect everything: the Internet cable and power. And after a couple of minutes, the laptop will automatically connect to the network (if it doesn’t, do it yourself), and everything will work fine without interruption.

There is also such a situation when there are no problems with anything, but suddenly WiFi stops working. What to do in this case? Either call support or reboot the router. Or the problem may still be in the laptop. There will be nothing complicated in the actions: you just need to first disconnect from the network, and after a couple of minutes reconnect to it by entering the password. Everything should work, there should be no more such complaints. We hope you got an answer to the question why the laptop does not connect to WiFi.
