Once again, after installing a new cartridge, the device issued the inscription “ Toner sensor error' and did not come out on alert. As a rule, indignant users go to take the cartridge to the store for an exchange under warranty. But, alas, even with a replaced cartridge, the device, after a long buzz, displays the inscription toner sensor error. The reason for such a strange behavior of the device lies in incorrect operation of the toner supply mechanism. This same mechanism is highlighted in the photo below (click on the photo to enlarge). In order to get to this mechanism, it is enough to remove the right cover of the device.
main reason incorrect operation of the “toner supply mechanism” is a malfunction of the JC33-00020A solenoid (electromagnet), which corrects the operation of the JC97-01788B clutch (in the photo, the clutch white color). Solenoid failure is caused by a manufacturing defect.
Fix crash There are two ways to operate the toner supply mechanism:
1) Buy a new JC33-00020A solenoid and replace it.
2) Repair the current solenoid and tune it, it is the second method that will be discussed.
JC33-00020A Solenoid Troubleshooting.
To eliminate the defect of the solenoid, it is necessary to remove it. To do this, unscrew the two screws (see photo below) and remove it.
The photo (click to enlarge) shows that solenoid tab has the wrong angle(obvious manufacturing defect). Necessary unbend the tongue so that it would have an angle of exactly 90 degrees. Next, the working tip of the tongue carefully sanded from burrs formed in the process of cutting out the part on the machine. A little grease should be applied to the tip of the solenoid tongue before installation - this will eliminate possible jamming.
Moving part of the solenoid when attracted by a magnetic field, it emits a metallic click upon contact. To reduce noise, manufacturers use a porous gasket, which significantly reduces the sound of contact between the moving part of the electromagnet. But the material itself, from which the gasket is made, becomes sticky over time, which leads to sticking of the moving part and, as a result, we have a malfunction of the solenoid. We modernize the gasket a little, for this we remove the factory gasket and instead glue a piece of felt-type fabric. To glue the fabric, use cyacrine glue (for example, Super Moment). Next, let's move on to upgrading the spring. During operation, the spring loses some of its elasticity, which also affects the accuracy of the electromagnet. Strengthen the actuation force of the spring can be done as follows. We stretch the existing spring a little and fold it in half. In such a simple way, it was possible not only to return the former spring actuation force, but also to strengthen it a little. Attention!!! If the spring is not stretched a little before folding, then the electromagnet coil may not have enough power to overcome its resistance, which will also lead to a malfunction of the electromagnet.
After carrying out all the above manipulations, we install the solenoid in place and assemble the apparatus.
Toner sensor error is typical for all devices built on the same platform with Samsung CLX-2160. These devices include the following models: Samsung CLX-3160 / CLP-300 / Xerox Phaser 6110 / 6110MFP.
Of course, the toner sensor error may occur due to the release of other parts. the toner supply mechanism, but for several dozen printers that have passed through our service center, the elimination of a malfunction in the toner supply mechanism has always boiled down to repairing the solenoid.
