How to open settings in cs6. How to set up Photoshop to work with photos

In the era of digital photographs, tools for processing them were required. Photoshop rightfully takes the place of the best. Its possibilities, if not limitless, are certainly very significant. But most users completely misuse some Photoshop settings or are not even aware of their existence. To use the full power of the program, you need to configure it correctly.

What are the options?

Many people, when opening the program for the first time, find themselves faced with dozens of buttons, sliders and parameters. A completely logical question immediately arises: “Where are the settings in Photoshop?” Editor options can be divided into several categories:

  1. Hardware settings of the program itself.
  2. Colors.
  3. Brushes and interface options.
  4. Separate parameters for each tool.

Setting up Photoshop correctly and conveniently for the first time is almost impossible. It takes time to get used to the program. This may take several hours, a week, a month - it all depends on the frequency of work.

Differences between Photoshop CC and CS

The debate about which version of the popular editor is better has been going on for several years.

“Photoshop CC” has built-in advanced capabilities for teamwork on a project, improved capabilities and performance of 3D design and 3D printing, and an expanded standard set of brushes and some tools. In addition, the program runs on a new engine, which means it has become a little more productive.

The differences between the CC version and the CS version will be subtle or completely invisible to a novice user. Setting up Photoshop SS is almost identical to setting up any other Photoshop, therefore, following the general recommendations in this article, you can adjust this editor as you please.

Main settings

You can go to the main parameters window using the Ctrl+K key combination. There are quite a lot of parameters here, and if you describe each of them separately, you will get a whole documentation for Photoshop, so we will dwell in detail only on the important points.

  1. So, the first tab is General (basic settings). Here you can select the dynamic palette display, color system and image interpolation method. Below is a list of useful items. By default, they are quite acceptable; if you are not sure of the correctness of the actions, there is no need to touch them.
  2. Next is the Interface tab. Here you can select the background color and the window itself, the program language and font size. Everything you need to set up Photoshop for yourself.
  3. File Handling menu. Menu for saving and opening documents. Here you can also leave everything as default.
  4. Performance tab. Described in more detail below.
  5. Next they go various settings interface. You can select the display mode of rulers or their values, cursors in different situations, guides and grids, plug-in settings window and typography.

Performance Settings

In the Performance tab, you can select Photoshop CS6 settings that will make it more comfortable to work even on weak machines. The first section is memory. Using the slider you can set any value. The system automatically calculates the available number of bytes of memory and the most favorable range of values, in case it is difficult for you to decide for yourself.

Cache and history. History is needed to save actions and possibly cancel them. The number of steps to record is up to you. 20-30 points is a completely acceptable value. The cache is needed to store the current image at different scales in memory. Thus, it is easier for the program to reproduce a saved image than to scale it every time.

Graphics and disks

In the disk settings section, you can select a local partition that will be used to store temporary files, and also, if necessary, act as a swap partition. The default is system partition, but you can use a disk with more free space. Ideally, for Photoshop you should reserve separate section, and in this window indicate exactly it. This will speed up the program a little.

The last window is GPU usage. It's definitely worth checking the box if you have an additional video card. To render large images, Photoshop needs as much processing power as possible. In the additional menu of this item you can select the GPU usage mode.

Color Setting

Photoshop supports many working color profiles. You can go to the Photoshop color settings menu using the key combination Shift+Ctrl+K. There are few items here, but many options within each drop-down list.

  1. The first section Settings is a list of settings. Offers several preset macros to choose from. In most cases, you can use one of them.
  2. Next comes the settings for the working color profile. Classic Adobe RGB (1998) is suitable for most professional camera shots and other images. Having the largest allows you to display and adjust colors in Photoshop on your monitor or print.
  3. The last point is the choice of action policy. For each color space there are three identical options for working with the color profile. Off - disables color management for images whose profile differs from the working one. Preserve Embedded Profiles (save original profiles) - the most best option. Allows you to save the built-in profile and restore it in case of incorrect conversion to a working one. Convert to Working - Simply converts the original profile to a working profile.

In order to fully control the color parameters of incoming images, check all three bottom boxes in the Color Management Policies section. In this case, the program will offer several actions to choose from each time if the color profile of the incoming file does not match the built-in working profile.

Interface personalization

Photoshop offers a fairly wide range of interface settings. It is possible to change the position of almost all tools, tabs, add or remove any of them by simply dragging and dropping.

There are also saved factory macros for various tasks. You can select them in the "Main workspace" tab in the upper right corner, immediately above the entire work area. In the drop-down list, you can select ready-made samples, reset settings, or delete a workspace macro.

By the way, choosing the type of workspace is a purely individual matter. For artists it will be useful to constantly display a navigator or palette, for photographers a histogram, for designers coordinates.

In the Photoshop settings you can control the parameters of the main menu. By default, the window opens using the combination Shift+Alt+Ctrl+M and contains only two tabs and one list of current settings. It makes sense to disable rarely used tools in order to save screen space, but only if it is really necessary, because you never know what pitfalls the processed photo hides.

In the same window you can configure keyboard shortcuts based on your needs. You can connect any combinations for any items. The menu is intuitive, there are no complex settings in it, which means we won’t dwell on this in more detail.

Tool Settings

In addition to customizing the ease of use of the program, it is possible fine tuning brushes and other tools. Each has a “flash menu” that opens directly above the work area when activated. For example, for brushes you can select the type, size, blending mode, pressure and several settings for tablets. There is also a button to go to a full menu for setting up and managing brushes.

Brushes in Photoshop have quite a lot of functions, but they are all useful. The menu with brush presets opens by right-clicking in any part of the workspace, but the global settings menu is opened by LMB-clicking on the icon with brushes in the side menu on the right or on the icon in the flash menu. Here you can choose any contour effects, add texture, blur, rotate, refine and stylize just the contour or the entire print. More flexible brush settings in Photoshop can be made by having Graphics tablet. The effect of pressure and the quality of the texture of a particular brush at the edges of the line will be immediately noticeable. This is more relevant for brushes of complex shapes.

Tool Settings Manager

From the same menu you can go to another settings block by clicking on the icon in the lower right corner. In this window you can add or remove brushes, create your own, sort and create tool sets. You can load not only brushes, but also any other elements from the drop-down list. You can download them ready-made or make them yourself.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to recommend any general settings for this menu. It all depends on your preferences and type of activity. Try just moving the sliders and see what happens. You will definitely find a brush of the right shape and texture.

Seal

“Photoshop” can be used not only for drawing or processing photographs, but also for high-quality photo printing.

All printing settings in Photoshop are located at the following address or Ctrl+P. There are several printing methods depending on what kind of images you want to get on paper:

  • Small resolution print, vector drawings, text, monotonous abstractions and low-resolution photos.
  • Printing photographs and images of high resolution and geometry with complex patterns.

In the first case, you can simply go to the print menu by pressing Ctrl+P. All that needs to be set in this window is the Printer Manages Colors item (the color is managed by the printer). If desired, in the upper section of Printer Setup, you can select the sheet orientation or make adjustments to the advanced settings of the printer itself.

As in the first case, go to the print section Ctrl+P. In the color management menu, you must select Photoshop Manages Colors (color is controlled by “Photoshop”). Next, select a color profile. It usually comes with the printer drivers, but can also be downloaded manually from the printer manufacturer's website. Color profile should describe the operation of the printer as accurately as possible. Optionally, you can set the rendering method and black point compensation and other parameters. This method will allow you to convey colors as accurately as possible during printing.

There is no need to change the standard RGB. All modern printers perform automatic profile conversion.

What to do if you have configured too many things?

After visiting all the settings sections, dragging various sliders and hiding a couple of important windows, you may find that the program has become noticeably worse. There's nothing wrong with that; you don't have to reinstall the program. You can return it in a few steps standard settings"Photoshop" and get the product out of the box.

  1. To do this, at the moment the program starts, hold down the combination Shift+Ctrl+Alt. A confirmation window will appear. After agreement, the program will restart with factory settings.
  2. But you can also click on the “Cancel” button in the main settings window while holding down the Alt key.

After these steps, set the necessary Photoshop settings and restart the program.

In this article, I tried to describe the settings that are necessary for comfortable work in Photoshop.

Program interface language

Photoshop (currently version CC 2014) is now part of the Creative Cloud package and installed from the shell. Creative Cloud- this is something like a universal installer. You install it, and it downloads the necessary distributions and installs it itself, monitors updates, etc. I highly recommend using the English version by switching the language in Creative Cloud BEFORE installing. If you have already installed the Russian version, simply uninstall, switch the language and install again.

Preferences - program settings.

  • on Mac: Photoshop > Preferences
  • on Windows: Edit > Preferences ( Ctrl+K)

It is recommended to set these settings, but you can always change them if necessary. I tried to describe why these settings are needed, but in some places it is difficult to understand. The remaining settings (not described in the article) can be left “as is” or copied mine. If in doubt, copy all settings.

Preferences > General

On this tab you need to set the interpolation mode ( Image Interpolation) in Bicubic (Best for smooth gradients). This mode will be used in all transformations and where not explicitly specified. This interpolation mode gives minimal distortion when rotating objects.

Preferences > Interface

Put all background colors (three fields) in Medium Gray. This is necessary for the correct perception of the picture. A picture on a light background looks darker, and on a dark background it looks lighter than it is.

Preferences > Performance

Setting up performance. We allow you to use more memory(as many as there are), allow you to store a LOT of History items (1000 pieces, 8 cache levels), enable support for normal maps (“Graphics Processor Settings”, turn on the Use checkbox and configure it in Advanced Settings as shown in the picture below). In versions CS6 and earlier, when increasing cache levels, it can slow down if there is not enough space on the screw and the machine is weak.

In Advanced settings, check all the boxes, for Retina under MacOSX, uncheck Anti-alias Guides and Paths(on Windows it works ok without it).
30bit Display is described separately (), it only works with 30bit video cards.

Preferences > Scratch Disks

Select the disk where the temporary files will be located (preferably a separate SSD). During operation, Photoshop creates several tens of gigabytes of them, so make sure there is enough space. Previously, this setting was on the Performance tab.

Preferences > Cursors

Set brush tools to normal brush display ( Normal Brush Tip) to see the shape of the brush. The rest are at the exact cursor ( Precise) to see the point from which you take the color. During operation, the Normal/Precise cursor mode is switched using the CAPS LOCK key ( frequently asked question“Where did my brush cursor go?”). If you don't understand what we're talking about, just select a large radius brush and press CAPS LOCK.

Preferences > Units & Rullers

Set to count linear dimensions ( Rullers) in millimeters or pixels(the latter is more relevant for the web).

Print resolution put in 300PPI(you can find out the print resolution at the printing house/photo lab, but usually 300).

Screen resolution Can count(on that website). A new version Photoshop itself calculates it, usually even correctly. Put “standard 72PPI” there NO NEED, there have been no monitors with such a pixel density for a long time.

Resolution is a value that determines the number of dots (raster image elements) per unit length. The Resolution settings are not critical if you do not plan to print images, but it is better to set them correctly.

Operating principles and setting up a color management system (CMS).

(you can open color management settings here: Edit > Color Settings, Shift+Ctrl+K)

The correct CMS settings are needed so that you and other users see the image the same way. In most cases, the sRGB color space is used, so it is recommended to work in it. Until you understand the color management system well enough, it is recommended to set the following values:

* IN old version Photoshop, you need to click on the “More Options” button to display all the settings (by default, not all are shown).

Working Spaces

· Working Spaces > RGB select profile sRGB IEC61966-2.1(Under no circumstances should you install Monitor Colors here!)

· Working Spaces > CMYK select profile Coated FOGRA39

· Working Spaces > Gray select profile Gray Gamma 2.2

Color Management Policies

· in Color Management Policies you need to put all three fields in Preserve Embedded Profiles, all three ticks Ask When Opening turn on.

Conversion Options

· It is very important to use the engine Adobe ACE, not Microsoft's.

· Intent = Perceptual(in most cases it gives the optimal result; later there will be a separate article about modes for casting out-of-spectrum colors)

· Use Black Point Compensation turn on

· Use Dither turn on

· Compensate for scene-referred profiles turn on

Advanced Controls

Blend RGB Colors Using Gamma = 1.0

Blend Text Colors Using Gamma = 1.0

These settings are extremely important for those who draw in Photoshop. Without the “linear gamut blending” option enabled, color mixing in Photoshop does not work correctly and the colors turn out “dirty.”

· It should look like the picture below

On this initial setup Photoshop can be considered complete.

The most important thing, perhaps, is the speed of the program. Often Photoshop “slows down” because by default it uses drive C, on which it is installed. operating system your computer. There are other nuances, but first things first.

So let's go to the menu Editing => Settings => Basic(Edit => Preferences => General) ( Ctrl+K).

Please note: the list of existing sections is located under the heading “Basic”, that is, knowing in advance which section needs to be changed, we can select it.

A settings window will open, on the left side of which you can select the sections that we want to view. You can also navigate through them by clicking Ctrl+2, Ctrl+3 etc., respectively, moving to tab No. 2, 3... and further along the list, or by pressing the buttons Back And Forward in the upper right corner of the window.

So, Basic settings (settings) of Photoshop(General Preferences).

First point -Color palette (Color Picker). Leave the default palette Adobe, because it is “native” to Photoshop, and, therefore, is most fully adapted for it. As an alternative, we offer the color palette of your computer's operating system, as well as the palettes of other graphics programs, if any have been downloaded to your computer.

HUD color palette (HUD Color Picker) - here you can select the view in which the heads-up-display color palette will be displayed (head-up display, that is, on transparent background). However, to enable it you need graphics card with support for the OpenGL standard. So let's leave this point alone for now).

Image Interpolation (Image Interpolation) is an important point that determines how the image is converted when it is reduced or enlarged. It is considered optimal to maintain image quality Bicubic interpolation (Bicubic).

Auto-update of open documents (Auto-Update Open Documnts) - all changes made to the document are saved immediately on the hard drive. This is relevant when several people are simultaneously working on a project and need to see everything that is happening in real time. This function will only slow down the work, so don't check the box.

Sound signal when finished (Beep When Done) - you can go have some tea while the program applies a complex filter to the image). You will be called sound signal upon completion of the operation. Sometimes this function is very useful if the actions being taken are not noticeable: the sound will make it clear that the action has taken place. I prefer do not check the box.

Dynamic scales (Dynamic Color Sliders) - Using this option, you can change the range of colors that are displayed on the screen in real time. Leave the checkbox.

Export clipboard (Export Clipboard) - we are talking about the clipboard of the Photoshop program itself, from which it will be possible to export data to other editors. If you do not practice copying data from Photoshop to other applications, you can uncheck the box.

Changing tool with key Shift (Use Shift Key for Tool Switch) - in the Tool Palette there are combined groups of tools that are assigned one alphabet key. If we uncheck the box, we will be able to switch between tools without pressing Shift, if we leave it - only when pressed. It’s more convenient to uncheck the box.

Resize image when placing (Resize Image during Paste/Place) - when the function is enabled, the fragment inserted into the document will change its size in accordance with it. But remember: any changes in image size lead to a decrease in quality. Leave the checkbox.

Scaling with animation (Animated Zoom) - smoothly increase or decrease the image while holding down the left mouse button. Leave the checkbox.

The Zoom tool resizes windows (Zoom Resizes Windows) - If documents are opened in Photoshop in separate windows, the dialog boxes are resized to fit the size of the documents. Why, I don’t know... So - don't check the box.

Zoom with mouse wheel (Zoom with Scroll Wheel) - to zoom in and out of the document, just rotate the mouse wheel. Personally, for me it’s so inconvenient - you can accidentally turn the wheel. I find it more convenient to change the scale by holding Alt and rotating the wheel. I don't check the box.

Centering the view where the mouse is clicked (Zoom Point Clicked to Center) - this function allows you to select the zoom center by clicking the mouse when the Zoom Tool is active. I don't use it either I don't check the box.

Enable Drawing Capture (Enable Flick Panning) - if you enable this function, we will be able to capture the image with the Hand Tool and, if we “pull” it and release it, the image will continue to move as if by inertia. It's not clear why I had this setting enabled - uncheck the box.

Change round brush hardness based on vertical HUD movement - here I am too uncheck the box, because I don’t use this palette yet.

The remaining two checkboxes are Move or drag raster images like smart objects and Snap vector tools and conversions to pixel grid- leave it included. However, not all of the above settings may be present in other versions of Photoshop, here we are talking about Photoshop CS6.

Below all the checkboxes we see a block History of changes (History Log). It is needed to configure the recording of all changes made to the image in a separate text file or into document metadata. This feature can be useful if you are reporting to someone on the work you have done, processing an image for a competition, or providing paid services: You will have proof of the actions taken. Otherwise it's better do not enable this feature, so as not to load the program with unnecessary work, but memory- extra files.

And the last button in this section Basic Photoshop settings - Recover all messages . We are talking about pop-up warning messages that can be disabled by checking the box “ Don't show again", such as:

By clicking on this button we will allow their display again.

We have reviewed Basic Photoshop settings. Let's move on to the next settings section - Interface(Interface) ( Ctrl+K, Ctrl+2).

And this tab begins, of course, with setting the interface color. Adobe Photoshop CS6 differs from all previous versions in this regard - by default its interface is black. Frankly, this bothers me and makes it difficult to work, so I happily changed the color to the usual, neutral gray. I would like to note that printed publications with illustrations from Photoshop with a black interface make it very difficult to study(. As you can see, there are four shades to choose from - black and three types of gray.

The following are listed settings different modes of the Photoshop window: standard window, full screen view with menu and full screen. I mainly use standard window, so I didn’t even touch the other two settings, I only set the first one to “medium gray”.

Automatically collapse icon panels (Auto - Collapse Iconic Panels) - a panel opened by a mouse click will immediately be collapsed if you open another panel with the mouse. I wouldn't want that, so I don't check the box.

Auto show hidden panels (Auto - Show Hidden Panels) - based on the name, this function allows you to display hidden panels.

Open documents in tabs (Open Document as Tab) - if this function is enabled, all documents will open in separate windows.

Enable docking of windows of unpinned documents (Enable Floating Document Window Docking) - documents opened in separate windows can be grouped and managed as a single group. I always use this opportunity.

Show channels in color (Show Channels in Color) - an interesting function that shows each channel in the Channels palette colored in the corresponding color. Here's what the Channels palette looks like before and after enabling this setting:

It looks impressive, but when working with channels it makes it difficult to adequately evaluate the image. Often it is necessary to use one channel to remove noise, create a complex selection, sharpen, and a color image makes it difficult to see the saturation of the channel. This is what the channel looks like without using color.

... And so - with the color turned on.

Show menu colors (Show menu colors) is a nice Photoshop setting that allows the most frequently used menu items or palette commands to be highlighted in color. I don’t select anything yet, but I don’t uncheck it either, in case it comes in handy. To select a menu item, open Editing => Menu(Edit => Menus) ( Alt+Shift+Ctrl+M) and in the window that opens, select the desired menu item from the list, click in the “Color” column and select a color from the suggested ones:

Now, opening the menu commandSelection, we see that the “All” item is highlighted in purple.

You can also highlight any item in the Photoshop panel menu with color. To do this in the windowKeyboard shortcuts and menusinstead of " Program menu» select » Panel menu«:

Such excesses only slow down the work of Photoshop, and we strive for speed of the program! Don't check the box.

Paragraph Show conversion values allows you to select the location where the result of moving or transforming a layer or fragment relative to the cursor will be shown (right, left, top, bottom, or “not show” at all, which is not recommended). The result is shown in the form of deviations along the coordinate axes, angle size, etc. in a black rectangle.

If I'm not mistaken, this feature only appeared in CS6.

Button Restore default workspaces (Restore Default Workspaces) will allow you to return appearance program to the original one, which was set by default.

And a reminder that all changes (unlike the “Basic Settings” tab) will take effect after restarting the program.

So we looked at the Photoshop settings - the very first two sections, Basic Settings and Interface. I really hope this was interesting and helpful information. Let you work in Photoshop comfortably and joyfully! The next lesson in this section will talk about the most important Photoshop settings - performance and speed parameters.

Successful work!

Before working with Adobe program Photoshop on your computer, you first need to optimally configure this graphic editor for yourself. This is necessary in order to further work the program did not cause you any difficulties or problems. Working in such an editor should be convenient, pleasant and fast. In this material we will go through the basic settings and adjust some of them to suit ourselves. Now let's get to work!

Basic

So, go to the menu “ Editing» —> « Settings» —> « Basic". After this, the settings window opens. Now we will look at the basic settings (picture can be enlarged):

  • Color palette- leave it on " Adobe«;
  • HUD color palette- leave it at " Hue wheel«;
  • Image Interpolation— select the mode “ Bicubic, sharper (best for reduction)". Very often we have to reduce our image for posting on the Internet or in preparation for printing. And since we often reduce our image, that’s why we choose this mode.

Let's see now following parameters in the " Basic". We won’t change anything much here except for the point “ Changing tools using the Shift key". Usually, to change a tool in one tab, we press the Shift key and at the same time, which relates to this tool. This is not entirely convenient for us. Therefore, you can uncheck this item. So you can change the tool with one hotkey. It is very comfortable! But if you want, you don’t have to uncheck this item.

Also in these parameters there is an item “ Zoom with mouse wheel". If you wish, you can check this box and save the settings. Now, when scrolling with the wheel, the photo scale will change. Quite a convenient feature. If you need it, then check the box next to this function. If you do not check the box, then to change the image scale, you will need to hold down the ALT key and simultaneously scroll with the mouse wheel.

Interface

So, when we have set the basic parameters, go to the “ Interface"to view the settings for . We don't change anything in the basic color settings. But in the settings " Border" leave all points " Do not show«.

What will this give us? By default, a shadow appears on the borders of the photo. I consider this to be an unnecessary beauty of the program, but it interferes with the work. It can be confusing whether this shadow is real or whether it was added using a separate effect. Therefore, to avoid confusion in the future, it is better to turn off the shadow display.

Below in the settings " Panels and documents"put a tick on" Auto-show hidden panels". We don’t touch any more settings here. Also make sure that your interface language is Russian and the font size in the menu is set to small.

File processing

Go to the tab " File processing". We do not change the file saving parameters.

In file compatibility, in the “” item, set “ Always". Then the program will not ask us when saving whether to maximize compatibility or not. The program will do this by default. We leave everything else unchanged.

Performance

Let's go to the performance settings of the Photoshop program. In the memory usage scale, you can adjust the usage random access memory according to the needs of the program. Usually the maximum value of 100% is set here so that the program does not slow down in the future.

In settings " History and cache"We'll make some minor changes. In point " Action history“I set it to 80. In the process of work, it will be better if we have a big story. We may make some mistakes while working with the program and we must have good opportunity, so that we can always return to the previous action. If the story is small, it won't be enough. I recommend making the story large, at least 60 points. Usually history is set to 100. However, I will say that this parameter loads the system a little. If you don't have much powerful computer, then set it to 60. This way Photoshop won’t freeze often.

And here is the tab " Working disks" very important. Under no circumstances should you install a scratch disk system disk C. You can select other drives where you have the most free space. But we never touch the system disk.

Also in GPU settings (if it supports), you need to enable OpenGL rendering. Here you can also configure “ Extra options ", but in these parameters I left the mode " Ordinary". It may happen that the GPU settings may not have this feature. It means that this parameter is not supported by your video card.

Cursors

After you have configured the program performance, go to the “ Cursors". Here you can customize the cursor appearance. Here I personally did not change anything and left everything in its standard form. If you wish, you can play around here and customize your cursor display.

Transparency and color gamut

You can configure a warning when you go beyond the color gamut, as well as the display of the transparent areas themselves. I didn’t change anything here either and left everything as default. If you wish, you can play around with the settings.

Here you can configure the units of measurement for rulers, columns for text, and the default resolution for new documents. I didn't change much here. But in " Rulers"I chose to display in " mm«. « Text"I put it in " pix". This way I will know approximately what size my letters are depending on the size of the image in pixels.

Guides, Grid, and Slices

As a rule, in the “ Guides, Grid, and Slices"You can customize the grid to suit your needs. However, I personally did not change anything here, and left all the settings as default.

External modules

Here you can select a folder for external modules. When you add various plugins there, Photoshop will subsequently refer to this folder. In point " Extension panels"All settings must be checked.

Fonts

I didn't change anything here either. I left everything as it was.

3D

In the " 3D» you can configure settings for working with 3D images. Here you can set the % of video card memory usage. I kept it 100%. There are also rendering settings, quality settings and other settings for working with 3D objects. I did not touch all these settings and left everything at default.

The reason for writing this material was the repeated questions on forums and in personal messages by e-mail. The fact is that with non-optimal settings, both slowdown of the program and various other problems may occur, for example, the inability to work with individual filters or tools.

So let's get started.

First, let's configure the basic parameters of the program itself, and then move on to the color management settings.

In order to open the settings dialog, you need to either go to the menu Editing - Settings - Basic (Edit-Preferences -General) CTRL+K.

The following settings window will appear (by clicking on the picture you can view a larger image).

Here I usually set the default interpolation algorithm Bicubic (best for smooth gradients). This algorithm is the most universal and is suitable for both reducing and increasing the size of an image. However, after reduction you will have to increase the sharpness. If you mainly reduce images, you can set the algorithm Bilinear. Then, in most cases, you will not have to sharpen after reduction, or you will have to do it much less often.

Also I uncheck the option Changing tool with keySHIFT. This speeds up your work, as it allows you to quickly switch between tools of the same subgroup (for example, between a regular and a mix brush) by pressing just one key, rather than two.

Now let's move on to the next tab Interface

Here the settings concern mainly visual effects(circled in red). I turn them off because it interferes with my work. The color of the interface is a matter of taste, but I’m used to working in a light interface the old fashioned way.

I don’t use the next tab, since the settings synchronization function is not yet sufficiently developed. I'm not making any changes to it.

Go to the tab File processing

Here I change the setting Maximize file compatibilityPSD andP.S.B.. I set the value Always so that a window with this request does not appear every time you save.

Next tab - Performance.

Here you need to set the amount of RAM that will be used by the program, the number of file change history steps available in the palette Story, scratch disks, and also configure the settings for using the GPU (video card). Let's go through it in order.

It is better to set RAM within the range recommended by the program so as not to slow down the operation of the operating system and others in parallel running programs and processes.

You need to select a working disk other than the system disk (the one on which the operating system is installed). The scratch disk is used for temporary files that Photoshop creates while working. It will be very good if this happens SSD drive, in this case many operations will be performed faster.

I leave the number of steps in the history at 20 by default, since I practically don’t use the change history. Why? Yes, because after just a couple of minutes of retouching, even 500 history steps will already be used, and storing history requires large resources, which can lead to a slowdown in the program.

Therefore, instead of turning to history, you just need to organize your work correctly: perform operations on copies of layers, use the principles of non-destructive editing.

In the GPU settings block, you need to check that the checkbox is enabled Use GPU . For more detailed settings need to press a button Extra options

Check that the settings are the same as in the figure. Special attention pay attention to two checkboxes - Use GPU to speed up calculations and UseOpenCL. Disabling these features results in the inability to use many operations and filters.

Of the following tabs, the tab that is of practical importance is External modules. The block flags must be enabled Filters and Extension Panels. Then all filters will be shown in the menu, and various extension panels will work.

Now let's configure the color management system parameters. To do this you need to either go to the menu Editing - Color Settings (Edit-ColorSettings) or press the key combination SHIFT+CTRL+K. The settings window will open

In line Settings select from the drop-down list Universal settings for Europe. Thus, the main working space for the RGB model will be sRGB IEC61966-2.1. This completes the color adjustment.
